I purchased a laser engraver and started playing a bit with it today. I also have a CNC machine and I'm familiar with the design software I use for it called Vectric Aspire. Looks like I need something that can handle photos and vectors better for the laser, looking for some free or low cost alternatives. Inkscape seems to pop up in a lot of places but thought I'd ask if there was anyone here that had a favorite, especially if they're using it to drive a laser.
I downloaded Inkscape this afternoon and the user interface looks a bit intimidating but first looks can be deceiving. I did take a photo in to it and sent is as an .SVG file to the laser and it engraved but obviously could have used some processing besides the fact that I engraved it on a piece of the box that the laser was shipped in. Thanks in advance.
