Just the way the reservations worked out between commitments - we have around five days to travel / sight-see in an RV between leaving Moab and arriving Jackson, WY by way of Ogden.

Please recommend sights to see and even RV parks if you can. We don't particularly love moving the RV every day or two. I could see parking one or two different places and doing day trips and relaxing somewhere nice.

We don't have to have a "resort".

Thanks for comments.

from Moab hop over to Colorado National Monument. Then you can head north to Dinosaur National Monument. Then head to Odgen via Park city. Then head over to Bear Lake, then on to Jackson.

This is what I would do too.

If you haven't been to Capitol Reef NP, very worthwhile. Under-rated imo. Not much of a detour to Ogden.

In Ogden, be sure to check out the John M. Browning firearm museum at the Ogden Union Station, at the railroad depot. Even to someone who is not a firearm aficionado, it was amazing. I did the historic renovation work at the union station in the 1990's, and just found this to be a gem in the city of Ogden. It also houses browning's classic car collection, and the Utah state railroad exhibit.

+1 for Capitol Reef National Park as well... One of the more remote and beautiful parks in the NPS system. The hiking is fantastic, and the orchards are full of heirloom fruit trees passed down from the 1880's. I also worked there for 3 years as their cultural resource manager.

Hill AF bas in Ogden has a world class air museum.. highly recommended from personal experience.

questions about the route

Thanks for replies!

Decided to go to Capitol Reef NP on the way to Moab (will stay at Duke's Slickrock Campground & RV Park, 275 East Highway 24, Hanksville, UT 84734 and do day trips to Capitol Reef).

I'd be interested in any advice on the best route for pulling a fifth wheeler from Kodachrome Basin State Park to Duke's, and then on to Moab.

Would like to minimize severe downhill driving. Guessing we should avoid Highway 12? But how is 62 to 24?

12 is very winding & not very wide. Also exposed to wind. OTH, gorgeous drive.

Hanksville is not that close to Capitol Reef. Did you try Torrey, or the campground in the park (in fruita)? Much better accomodations, and choices.

Good idea. Do you have a particular campground in Torrey to recommend? Fruita was full.
