The Pension Train Has No Seat Belts | Mauldin Economics

Author seems very informed, although pretty depressing. Has a whole series of articles called the Debt Train.

Article talks about demographics behind debt problems, focusing on which states are in the worst shape.

Kentucky, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut, Colorado and Hawaii are among the states where taxpayers will likely be paying higher taxes for earned but unfunded promises.

He’s written several books about the coming crisis. They only reinforce my aversion to debt.

Tried to read it, but the site gave me problems.

Mauldin at least uses numbers. The math regarding pensions does not lie! You can't fill a funding hole by hoping things will get better or using portfolio income assumptions that do not exist in reality (e.g. portfolios will yield 100-200 bps higher than seen in last 10 years).

Nor does pretending the issue does not exist will do little to reduce the ultimate impact.
