Costco? What makes it awesome for you?

Another good example: My local Kroger sells a 2 lb. fresh hot rotisserie chicken for $7 while Costco sells a 3 lb. chicken for $5. Both are equally good tasting.

I have gotten contacts at Costco for several years and never used their optometrist. Never heard of this requirement.

I would expect to take any contacts order to Costco as long as it's something they carry.

I have a quick question, if I have a current prescription for glasses, do I make an appointment or do I just go into Costco with the prescription and wait my turn? Or something else?

Follow up: Just as I was told here, I went in with my prescription, picked my frame, and spent a few minutes sitting at the counter getting eye measurements and deciding on tint. I made them bifocals, so a couple minutes was spent deciding just where they should be. A week or so later, went back to pick them up. There was actually no adjustments needed on the frame, which the guy says maybe happens once a day for him.

My brother recommended Blackstone Merlot he found at Costco for under $7. I purchased a couple bottles today and it was a winner!!! Also bumped into a Willamette Valley Vineyard Rep, after putting 3 bottles of their Pinot Noir in my basket, who comped me several vineyard wine tasting flights. Worth a drive after the holidays!!

I passed up their offering of Gouda Cheese because the package was large, only to find it at Fred Meyer down the road for the same price but half the size. Back to Costco I go!

LOL! - We have a food saver, and find that cutting the cheese into smaller wedges and vacuum packing it keeps the pieces a really long time.

I just added to my inventory of Blackstone Merlot... $4.80 a bottle!

And I picked up the gouda cheese.

LOL! Their Gouda is not quite as good as what we bring home from Holland, but it's close.

By the way, if anyone cares it's pronounced Howda. The G is a back of the throat rasp (like clearing the throat), but we don't have a character in English to denote that, so the H will have to do.

I learned that many years ago and it has caused me no end of trouble. I like to pronounce foreign words the way the natives do, so when I ask for some in a store I almost always get a blank look. Eventually their face brightens up and I get "Oh, you mean GOO-da."

Trying to explain the way you just did has always been a waste of time. I was lucky enough to get a visit to a small farmstead cheesemaker last summer just about ten miles from the town of Gouda, and their cheese was some of the best I've ever eaten. Just finished the last of what I brought home.

Gouda is also amazing when aged, of course. And I find it one of the best to use in my home smoker.

All their gouda cheese is from Holland. One of the varieties on the shelf was smoked.

What we bring from Holland is the boerenkass - is an aged "farmer's cheese" made from raw milk, not pasteurized like the Dutch cheese sold in the US. If you buy cheese made in the town of Gouda in a store in Holland it is also a version made from raw milk. The taste is slightly different.

Savings on glasses & hearing aid overall in last year are $1K plus vs. alternatives.

DW still gets contacts thru Sams (no membership needed) because tho contacts themselves are ~ same price, each require you to use their optometrist & Sams are $30 less in our area.

Many of their meat/fish portions are too big for us.

I got Costco glasses and hearing aids this last year. I am not pleased with either. I now have to take my glasses off to see anything up close. I don't like the Costco hearings aids much at all. If I have them loud enough to be useful, they distort and make a lot of noise so I can't hear much at all. My DD says I can hear better (with a lower volume) than I can without them, so I kept them.

Close nough for this (born and raised) Dutch girl.

And now you have tried to pronounced Gouda - a pretty good try I must say - let's try that Starry Night painter's last name such that his mother would know who we are talking about (hint: "o" sound in there is like the o in how) ;)

Have you let Costco know that you are not satisfied so they can try to fix it?

I have spent more time with the hearing aid people than I care to even think about. They replaced the aid that had the worse distortion and it did not help. The specialists were as helpful as I could expect, the hearing aids just did not seem to work very well. This is my first set of hearing aids, so I don't really have anything to compare them to. I had the eye glasses checked and they said they were correct. I think the problem is the material is inferior to Verilux, but that is just my feeling. I will go to a place that uses Verilux lenses next time. They will be more expensive, but I have never had a problem with glasses made using Verilux.

They had samples of the imported Gouda at the local Costco this afternoon. Better than the supermarket grade, but not really good. Sharp without a lot of flavor. Decided to pass.

They have a smoked variety on the shelf. We are hosting young children so something in the medium flavor range will work this year. Also offering Tillamook medium cheddar on the cheese plate.

Hearing aids: if this is your first set maybe Costco, a value retailer, isn't where you should be. My husband found his, originally, through an audiologist recommended by his physician who is also hard of hearing. His first pair were helpful but not great. After a couple years he upgraded and it was stunning the difference - perhaps his hearing had adapted but also they were high-tech. When those has seen their day he purchased his current ones through Kaiser but made by the same manufacturer. If you live in or near eastern Jefferson County or in Kitsap County WA send me a PM.

The big wide parking spaces. And the fact that I can take things back no questions asked pretty much.

Our daughter hasn't touched ham or pork since spending a semester abroad in Spain.

Says she ate enough ham for a lifetime.

LOL!

Yeah, and Mexicans definitely inherited the Spanish love of pork.

To be rivaled by the US southeast of course. My understanding about the US southeast pork tradition is the woody terrain was more suited to the raising of pigs than other livestock.
