Covid Vaccine Distribution

What I've been wondering is: If you get 1 vaccine, does that interfere with the action of the second vaccine , as your body will already be prepared to fight off what it thinks is the virus

Did they do actual antibody testing on you to determine if you are in fact protected ?

What I was told by pharmacist and the trial physician was no issue as one is a mRNA (Moderna) and the J & J utilizes adenoviruses which is similar to a flu vaccine in makeup. Totally different delivery methods and would not affect the effectiveness of either.

I have been tested for antibodies by J & J as part of the study but they won't tell you any of the results.

I asked the pharmacist that gave me my first shot about this - he said they had epipens ready and extra staff in case anyone had a reaction in the Safeway store.

I bought two line caught wild salmon fillets, some 'artisan' brioche and a bottle of Chateaunuef du Pape at my local Safeway and had quite a reaction at the cash registers. They didn't do a darn thing for me.

Just got an email from the Health Dept to keep me up to date.
It's actually for a small County outside Chicago, where I signed up 4 really old folks for their shots.

Looks like it's going to be a VERY LONG wait for others (and myself).

Since last week, the Health Department offered appointments to an additional 1,900 individuals on the Health Department’s vaccine registration list. As of 2/24, we have notified approximately 15,100 individuals on our list with an opportunity to schedule an appointment. Over 325,000 registrations have been entered in this list to date.

(325,000 - 15,100) / 1,900 = 163 weeks to go !!!

Note: I realize some of the 325K registrations will be duplicates, cancel, die, etc so maybe only 50% are legit, and it's only 81.5 weeks

Keep one eye on your local news.

We are on a waiting list at a local pharmacy, but were able to snag an appointment for next week at a hospital in our previous town, 150 miles away. I was thrilled.

Then today, I read our governor would visit a Covid vaccination event in a nearby town that planned on 3000 folks. I Googled it immediately. That event was for people 70+, but the article mentioned another one tomorrow for 65+. The person quoted in the article stressed that the clinics would fill up quickly, but be assured everyone else would be placed on a waiting list.

Within 10 minutes, DH and I were registered (there were plenty of time slots available) for tomorrow morning. It was total happenstance I learned of this. It aired on local news February 23, but DH and I missed it.

Not-so-funny: the pharmacy sponsoring this event is the one DH and I are supposedly listed with....but nobody contacted us.

I guess it's all relative. 20 miles is quite a way here ..... all the way to SF or Oakland. And I'd pass a number of vaccine sites to get there.

I am obviously behind on this thread. I drove 170 miles each way to get the shot. Why? Because locally the best I could do was April 10th for the first shot. By going the 340x2 miles in upstate NY in winter, I was able to get my first shot on Jan 30th and the second Feb 20th. In my mind, well worth the drive to get this done two months early.

Kaiser came through before ca.gov and I'm getting the first dose Monday. Gonna get me some fish & chips too after.

For anyone in NC--there is going to be a federal mass vaccination event starting March 10 in Greensboro NC at the old Dillards location at Four Seasons Mall. There will be 3000 doses administered per day 7 days per week for a month. Everyone over 65 and all frontline essential workers will be eligible. You will need an appointment--how to get an appointment will be announced soon.

Same in IL at the old United Center in Chicago, expected to do 6,000 doses per day.
Not exactly the safest neighborhood as ranked by neighborhood scout.

Our age group was moved up so DW called our providers office to see if we could schedule an appointment. Not yet, but we got on the waiting list and the admin suggested Thursday afternoon to be ready for a 4pm phone call. Apparently they're not getting enough 65+ for the available supply. He was happy to hear from people wanting to line up..

DW is wanting a real dinner at a restaurant for her birthday.

Got mine this afternoon
Pfizer.
Shot #2 scheduled for 03/29/2021.

I expect we will very shortly start to see sharp declines in the death rate if not so much in the number of cases.

Currently about half of people over 65 in the US have had at least one shot. the percentage with two is lower. But, at worst, a month from how 50% of people over 65 will be fully vaccinated and during that time a lot more will get their first shot (I know J&J is now approved but in the short term for older people it will likely be a 2 shot vaccine).

As of last October 80% of the deaths were people over the age of 65. With half of that population fully vaccinated you can expect death rates to go down by a bunch. Another 15% are in the 50 to 64 age range and the 5% left are under 50. And, many of those people under 65 may have underlying conditions and in some states (such as Texas) are able to be vaccinated (not children).

As of October only about 15% of Covid cases were people over 65. So I can definitely see a situation where in a month or two the number of cases goes down modestly but death rates are far lower.

I hope that's true but the declines in all the numbers in January was occurring all over the world, including in places which didn't have a very active vaccination program.

If any place is going to see positive results, you'd expect it to be Israel, perhaps about a month from now.

I got my first Pfizer shot today, the second is March 20th.

Then this evening, I got an email from Kaiser that I can schedule my shot there. Oh well, too late. I don't want to switch midstream, I don't know which vaccine Kaiser is using.

I’ve been keeping an eagle eye on the graphs mostly via New York Times Covid Statistics page. The dramatic drop in cases since Jan seems to have stalled recently about the level of the prior July wave peak. I’m hoping we see another big drop soon as well as a much larger reduction in daily deaths.

I was hoping for a continued drop in cases and deaths, too.

Dr. Duc Vuong thinks the recent drop was merely due to cold weather in much of the country thus keeping people at home, along with the "meh" months of January and February that don't have holidays (after NYE) that result in big gatherings. He's predicting that warmer weather will start bringing people out to mix and mingle, plus celebrations due to St. Patrick's and Easter. He's also surmising that seniors, vacationers, and spring breakers in Florida (an area with the more virulent UK variant of Covid) will be carrying that variant home with them, thus spreading it further around the country. He's forecasting that these, along with Covid fatigue (less care in masking, social distancing, less testing, etc.) will result in a fourth wave.

Time will tell.

My doctor approx 6 miles from my house and offered 1st Pfizer on 3 Feb. 21 days later we got the 2nd. We had registered with the county but they never contacted us until after we already had the first jab.

BTW: I happened to be in Walmart today and they were giving the pfizer shot in the store. I think

They are opening up for 55+ here in Connecticut on Monday. Out of curiosity I checked the Walgreens site this evening and found plenty of appointments nearby. So we've got our first shot scheduled for Tuesday and the second shot scheduled for a month from then.

We weren't expecting get it until early summer so we are quite happy!

Be glad we are not Europe. In some countries stockpiles of the AstraZeneca vaccine are growing due to public uncertainty over its effectiveness. Some countries have only injected 20 to 30% of their doses.

It seems that a political kerfuffle a few weeks ago, has given the citizens cause to wonder if that vaccine is worth getting. Spain, Italy, Germany, and France have a large number of doses sitting on the shelves. We’re talking over 60 percent of the vaccine unused.

I become eligible on Monday. I secured an appointment for Wed.!

Many a slip, 'twixt cup and lip, but I hope it comes through!

I wasn't addressing the declines in January. I am talking about what I think we will see in the US after 50% of the over 65 population is fully vaccinated. Of course have to wait 2 weeks after that and probably another months as deaths in the first month after that probably reflect people who got sick before. So really talking about declines we might expect to see in April and May.

Interesting as the rise in cases in early November was attributed to cooler weather and people spending more time indoors, particularly gatherings having to be brought indoors due to cold weather. Even though this virus doesn’t go away in hot weather, there does seem to be more of an increase due to cold weather.

I wish! And I’d love to get the Pfizer vaccine!
