Stations out of Gas TX

I have 1/3 tank of gas left in my car. I work from home so I am not going to drive until this is over.

This issue is caused by panic buy. Also the gas usage has increased from more grass cutting and from relaxed isolation due to warm weather. But it is mainly the panic.

Mexican and Tex-Mex food almost makes it worth it to live in Texas despite all those other things.

It's really terrible....I'm sure yours is much better, no matter where you live...

But trying to get back on topic, at least eating a lot of Tex-Mex is a good way to get some "gas" back in the pipeline.

Just watched the video of this. She spit on the driver when she couldn't cut the line.

I also saw the video of the gas station fight with a man and woman spitting on each other. Humanity at its worst. And it was just yesterday that NC started having the shortages (or supply problems or whatever you want to call them).. Heaven help us if the "shortages" go on for a while.

This link shows where the shortages are worse as panic buying mixes with legitimate buying. There's plenty of gas in the Colonial pipeline tank yards in Selma, NC, but a definite shortage of truck drivers to get it from storage to the individual stations in eastern and central NC is exacerbating the situation.

As of this afternoon, here's a screenshot listing gas stations out of fuel:

I haven't been to the town since Monday evening. Monday evening was fine at a Murphy gas station in Rockwall, TX. In fact, this was my once in a year trip to fill up 50 gallons worth of Puregas (Ethanol-free) for an army of small engines I have at the farm. I would have been real mad if I had to drive 2 hours round trip for nothing. There are very few gas stations around here who has Puregas.

People really need to stop watching the news. Someone else mentioned on another site that its fear porn, and people are addicted. Turn the news off. The doom and gloom is bs. News outlets know this attracts viewers, yet people still fall for it...sigh.

There is no shortage on the east coast. Business as normal. Back to buying TP since that will make the world a better place.

Well there may be not shortage but I cannot find any gas to buy. I need to buy some gas today so I can go visit my 90 year old mother tomorrow who lives about 90 miles away. I told her I would come and go to a doctor's appoinment with her. I am not sure I have enough gas in the tank to make it there and back. What would you do in this situation?

Not that it really matters since you can't get the gas, but it's not a gas shortage, it's a distribution problem. Plenty of gas, just can't get enough of it where it's needed at this time.
Yep. Everyone filling up at once has caused stations to run out, and there aren’t enough tanker drivers to respond/keep up with the surge. Long lines throughout NC and lots of stations all out. I just saw post on nexdoor re: a local station that had a tanker onsite, I assume they’ll be buried in cars lining up. I’ve read Colonial has already begun to restore pipeline operations, and there will be a softer demand for a few days once everyone has filled up. Unnecessary but not suprising.

I'm annoyed, because it is definitely panic buying around here that is causing the outages. I wish the governor had never declared an "emergency" because that sent people flocking to the pumps. I understand he did it in order to suspend some kind of fuel regulations, and also to head off potential price gouging, etc.

Given the disgusting behavior of some people (see above story about altercation) I'm not going anywhere near the pumps until next week. People are so predictable - situations like this bring out the very worst in a small number of people.

Oh well - on the bright side, the only place I have to go this week is the dentist, which is 25 miles round trip. Considering I drive a Honda Fit, which gets 33 mpg, I think I'll make it there and back! :D

I would:

1. Stay home
2. Stop stressing about the extremely temporary shortage
3. Reschedule the doctor appointment

No way to reschedule the doctors appointment. My mother is having a health issue that needs immediate attention. I will try to find another family member to go with her but they are all probably in the same boat. I will probably go and if I cannot find gas to get back i will just have to stay somewhere until there is gas available so I can get back home.

Sorry to hear this... Consider driving slower and turning off the AC to help get a little better mileage to stretch what you have left... If I could I'd bring you a tank full.

Thanks for the kind offer. I won't have to worry about the AC, we are having a cool spell here in NC. Good idea about driving slower. When I get to my mother's I will park my car and driver her car to the doctor's appointment, she thinks she has some gas in her car.

Its CRAZY here... most places are out... Lines at anything with gas....
Had to LMAO at one.... Station is out of gas, Price light off... bags on the handles...But they have Diesel..... A truck pulls up to the diesel pump and the guy starts fueling up...
Within a few minutes there are several cars lined up behind him....

The US is getting to be as bad as Russia in the Soviet Union days. :hide:

Back then, whenever a Russian saw a line outside a store, he immediately joined the line in order to get whatever it was that the store had available. Americans are now doing the same thing. If we see a line at a gas station, we immediately join in, to be sure that we will not miss out.

Oh, what happened to the Land of Plenty?

The Tesla owners in the NE must be laughing now.... Both of them....:)

Can you arrange for a cab or Uber to transport her to and from the appointment?

See if you or any neighbors have a can of gas so you can go up and take your Mom to that appointment?

Granholm announced the pipeline was to restart today (5pm) so hopefully this will be a blip.

Bring a gas can and siphon hose with you and siphon enough gas out of her car and put it into yours so you can get home?

Do you remember what gasoline tastes like? :D

My thought, probably obvious but maybe not: Bring a gas can and watch for gas stations between your and her house. Stop and fill up opportunistically at your first chance either on the way there or the way back. If you fill up on the way there, fill up the gas can too and top off her car as well. If there are two routes there that are of approximately equal distance, take one going there, and if no success on the outbound trip, take the other coming back home in order to double your chances.
