The topic on taking out the debit card from the wallet in another post got me thinking about my HEAVY purse size wallet. Most women tend to have larger wallets - I only carry mine IF I have my purse on me. Trips to movies or dinners, I detest carrying a purse, so just hand DBF my ID & a credit card. But, here's my breakdown for fun:

I have a 5 pound sterling note. No other cash. Some receipts and credit cards and my health insurance card. And my TopSecret Department of Energy never-expires radiation safety training card. It appears that my driver's license is missing.

I'm always perplexed by the "no cash" folks. I very rarely use it (everything goes on credit cards paid in full), but the few times a year I do, it comes in very handy. Ie purchases under $10 at ethnic grocery stores that only take credit for purchases over $10. Last month, $32 for a new driver's license at DMV (only takes cash or money order).

Part of the perplexity is when the "no cash" folks need cash and ask me if they can borrow cash for cash only "needs". That perplexes the hell out of me.

The last person that borrowed $ from me paid me back with change purloined from a departed coworkers "change cup".

The previous borrower has to ask his wife for money to pay me back.

As a "no cash" person, I never have a problem if folks want to give me cash. Maybe it's because I often take people to lunch and just pay for everybody ... with a credit card.

Also a no-cash wallet means that money moves from my kids' pockets into mine and not the other way 'round. For example, for me to watch their school games, they need to give me the cost of a ticket in cash earlier in the day.

At first I was going to comment that it'd be a lot of trouble to replace all that stuff in case of a robbery. But then I realized that you're too weighted down to run, so that wouldn't provoke the robber. And then you could seriously hurt the guy by throwing it at him. Even if he dodged it, by the time he picked it up and sorted through it (because he couldn't run with it either) the police would be on the scene.

15 years ago I lost my wallet, since then I carry as little as possible.

But I have a habit of losing mine every few years or so, and I don't carry any more than I care to lose. I know from experience that I have spares or can fairly quickly replace these:

Credit card & spare
ATM card
Costco card
La Mariana Sailing Club membership card (Not to sail-- it's for the restaurant.)
Library card
Military ID
Driver's license
Spare keys for cars & house (I lock my keys in cars a lot, too)
Blank check
Kid's photo
... and $100 cash.

I'll be among the first to volunteer to have this converted to an RFID chip and implanted in one of my index fingers.

After reading every body's responses and having worked in the medical field for forty years the one thing you should carry is a list of medications you take including dosages and what you are allergic to .

Way more stuff in my pocketbook than I probably need. I weed it out periodically. I should switch to a small satchel style with a long broad strap or maybe a tiny backpack. The unbalanced-on-1-shoulder pocketbook method is hurting my upper body lately (weather related ).

I have the basics in my wallet...license, 2 cashback credit cards, grocery store discount card, boat club membership card, Sears cc, medical and emergency contact info, my trust attorney's info, and enough cash to fill the tank with gasoline if we ever have an extended power outage .
Also the last 2 weeks of cc receipts so I can check the charges online.
