    Questions on FIREcalc input

area52, how did you do the re-input idea that you described? I can look in the last cell to see what the fund value was, to plug it back in. But where do I get what the inflated Withdrawal Amount would be for that last year's cell? I would need to plug that in along with the fund amount. I am...

    Questions on FIREcalc input

By the way.... my starting withdrawl rate was a sneeze LESS than 3.5% of the starting portfolio value. This might make some people feel bit uncomfortable. I know makes ME uncomfortable. I thought 3.5% would be pretty much sacrosanct ! But then again we don't KNOW what the next REAL LIFE 15 yrs...

    Questions on FIREcalc input

I think you might be on to something. If the FIRECalc program is a locomotive, doing a partial loop-back like you suggest would be like using one of those little "hand-cars": Good enough to finish the trip with. And probably better than one of those Monte Carlo simulators I just tried it. I use...

What do I call myself? Unemployed, Semi-Ret, Ret?

Re: What do I call myself? Unemployed, Semi-Ret, R If they press me for my job description, I say "Self-Fulfilling Prophet". Is this copyrighted? If not I'm using it from now on. This one is brilliant

    The cost of health insurance

I don't begrudge anybody their wealth no matter how it was derived. But the middle class has their wealth begrudged all the time. Speacial treatment for everything exept teh fruits of going to work every day And the wealth of the wealthy was created by other people. I dont confuse working people...

What do I call myself? Unemployed, Semi-Ret, Ret?

Re: What do I call myself? Unemployed, Semi-Ret, R Just tell them "I sell life insurance". This usually ends the questions pretty abruptly but sometimes you can get yourself caught because some people are actually LOOKING for insurance But if you really want to make all those pesky, nosey...

    The cost of health insurance

Yes food is a necessity but it's underlying mode of production is different than seeing a practitioner so it's not a clean comparison to medical care. Also, the biggest reason why food production is so copious and inexpensive is because of massive federal subsidies (Farmers are businessmen)...

    The cost of health insurance

This looks like a message board profanity filter edit to me It is. I just noticed that I made the EXACT same mistake TWICE! Not possible since I had it proofed. I am glad to see no one is in phoney baloney high dudgeon about CENSORSHIP!

By the way, I think thingy Armey is great, but then my politics make Rush Limbaugh look like a bleeding heart liberal, so Heh heh, actually that was a sloppy edit. I meant to say Dick Armey but I guess you got my drift. Must have been thinking of Darrel Hammond's Chris Matthews impersonation...

    The cost of health insurance

Nice thought but that's not how capitalism works. If I were suddenly relived of taxes but I know you still have the same amount of money to pay me I would have no incentive to lower prices. Health care is not optional. People will get it any way they can. It is what Adam Smith called a...

    The cost of health insurance

I would say, not wise. You don't need insurance for the things you CAN afford . You need it for the things you CAN'T afford. As a normal regular person you can never save enough money to pay for the truly expensive medical intevention you might need. Being healthy and young NOW is beside the...

    Question for Dory36 on FIRECalc

I've used the T Rowe Price and I think it's whacked. Way too conservative, and if I recall my calculators correctly, in its methodology it say it uses forward looking assumptions. ie: Fake data made up for a future world the way we THINK it will be. I think that's why it's so conservative

    Part time working? Insurance issues?

I'd keep the insurance, unless you're thinking of becoming a "full time part-time" worker or a permanant temp. It's all about the freedom to come and go. Besides if you start working part time or 4-6 months out of the yr all of a sudden you'll have more money coming in to defray the cost of the...

    Rebalancing?

That's the way to do it. My original long range plan was to not take anything from equities when they are in a negative trend. There is info somewhere and a calculator, REHP...? don't recall where.... that showed keeping a big-assed cash buffer and not molesting equities unless they are...
