    Retirement - 3% - 4% Withdrawal

withdrawal rate Very interesting thread - thank you to everyone who posted their #'s. My wife and I are on the FIRE path and will need our nest egg to last longer than the typical 30-year window as we're on track to be FI at a pretty young age and don't want to keep going in the rat race. The...

    Share your FIRE Milestones - 2013- 2020

Thanks simple girl and 2017ish. My DW and I can't talk about our FI/RE goals and progress with friends or family because it's awkward (all my friends are very successful but spend to their means whereas we're more frugal - but not cheap). So I'm glad to share with you all!

    Share your FIRE Milestones - 2013- 2020

Lurker here. I don't know if this is the right kind of milestone to post, but I'm proud to have paid off all my student loans 10 years early (actually did this about 6 months ago). $1.2M net worth -- I am 34, DW is 37. Aiming for FI by the time I'm 40.

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

Downshifting is a great word for it. That's kind of how I consider it too -- although I think others have made really good points about part time work being just as annoying as a full-time gig IF you need to work for financial reasons. I showed my fiance some of the posts here, and we agree...

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

I live in a very high COL area, and our HHI has hockey sticked over the last 2-3 years. So I wasn't able to save that much until then. And like most people in early-to-mid 20's I wasn't as focused on saving as I could have been, although I have always been very frugal. Now I am obsessed with...

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

Thanks again for all the great comments and feedback. Yes, I realize divorce is a possibility and it would certainly wreck these plans. As would a serious health issue. Also, $750K was really just a stretch goal for us to get to in the next 5 years. No reason I picked that other than if we...

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

MooreBonds: Thanks for the frank response. Fiance and I are about equal in terms of income. I'm worried I'll constantly move the bar and never stop working because I'll keep justifying the need to earn as much as I can while I can. Yes, I know this is such a first world problem and not something...

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

My original title was semi-retire, which is a better description. We want to work the absolute bare minimum to pay the bills... hence the "semi". But sure if I was totally in love with a new job I wouldn't mind working more. But the goal is to work as little as possible, not necessarily find a...

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

Thanks. The key word is enjoy. I have a great job now that I certainly don't hate, but I wouldn't choose to do it unless it paid well. Basically I want to work a lot less hours at something I'd enjoy to pay the bills but not worry about saving.

Retire by 35? Am I crazy?

Hello! First, thank you to all the great posters on this site. I am a lurker but have been a member for a few years now and read a ton. I would love your input on my situation and plan. I'll be posting this on a few different forums to see the different reactions I get, then compile the...

100% to 401(k) at Beginning of Year?

I did this a few years back... hit 401K contribution limit by end of March. Was nice to live poor for first few months and then get huge paychecks the rest of the year. It was fine from employer perspective but I think hurt me market-timing...

YOYO 27 Year old obsessed with retiring in next 5 years

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I actually love my job right now -- I work as an independent consultant, make my own hours, work as much as I want, etc. But I also spend most of my time on this planet either working or sleeping, so I would like to at least semi-retire (go down to working...

YOYO 27 Year old obsessed with retiring in next 5 years

Apologies for the juvenile title :) I am 27, live in DC region and am obsessed with at least semi-retiring in the next 5 years. I live with my GF, we're both doing great financially, and we want a goal of retiring while we are still young enough to enjoy life and try some new things. Neither...
