Thanks everyone for your perspectives. I agree there are several levers to pull when it comes to minimizing taxes on gains, so it’s not straightforward to factor that in. Including taxes in your yearly expenses seems like the way to go.

I have quite a bit of unrealized gains in my investment portfolio balance. When you enter your figures to firecalc, do you exclude the $$ owed to uncle sam out of the calculations?
