    Blow that Dough 2024

Sorry to hear that. I can't say that I recommend it myself, but I do get a second surgery in about three months to take out the metal hardware in my wrist. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. On the bright side, we are blowing another $8k later this year, doing a repeat (sort of) of last...

    Blow that Dough 2024

Whoo hoo! $1400 co-pay on hand surgery last week (mountain bike crash, broken arm at the wrist), and $1500 full cost on a crown at the dentist this week. Am I doing BTD correctly?

    Withdrawals at Age 59.5

It's also a leap year, so there is one more day of waiting with anticipation for that sweet, sweet money.

59 yr old ready to say "bye bye" at 62 or sooner!

Sure, but you have expenses. How much do you spend right now, and how certain are you that it includes everything? You'll need to have a good understanding of how much you spend now, and how much you want to spend in the future before anyone can give you an answer.

Southern Croatian or Northern Ionian islands?

We did a 20 day trip last year in Slovenia and Croatia last year, the first part on land, and finishing with a small boat cruise that started in Split and ended in Dubrovnik. While this tour was created and managed by a friend, I believe the cruise was chartered from Cruise Croatia . Our...

    Soft Saving

When the story mentions TicTok, that's your sign that the story is probably worthless. (Edit: no offense to the OP) That and the use of the word "boujie" (or it's various spellings).

    Passively-managed Job after FIRE

If you are in a tourist area, a laundromat can be a gold mine, and doesn't require much work on your part once it is set up. If you are not in a tourist area, a laundromat can still be a good business, especially if you can put it in an area that has a few cafes around it so people can get a...

    Your recent repair? - 2021 to ?

This morning I was reacquainted with everyone's favorite old friend, the wax ring. The repair actually went much easier than I anticipated. And in my book, plumbing is still preferable over painting any day.

    Class of 2023

I never added my name to this thread, but I announced my retirement in the "Hi, I am..." forum. Retired on April 8th. Loving it. Earlier this week I bumped into a coworker, and we chatted for 10 minutes or so. From what I heard from him, I got out at a very good time. Congratulations to...

Hi, I am 57 thinking of retiring next year.

Cherish, survive, whatever it takes, but nothing takes away that silly smile you have pasted on your face. Congratulations, Jimonlimon!

    401K asset reduction

Are you looking at buying the entire tower (or, more likely, an ownership share of the entire tower), or just a single unit or two in the tower? The former sounds interesting, the latter not so much.

Dave Ramsey rips the 4% rule again today.

No, they are not particularly sophisticated, but that's not really a criticism of Ramsey's method. Here's an interesting take on how he helps many people, despite giving less than perfect guidance: Dave Ramsey’s Behavioral Advice Ingenuity To Help People Make Better Financial Decisions It's an...

Well, I'm making the leap - Retirement is finally here

Since you were planning on retiring 1st quarter 2024 anyway, what was your plan for income in retirement at that time (before you knew of the severance pay)? If you were happy with those plans, can you just shift the start date of that plan 15 months forward?

Well, I'm making the leap - Retirement is finally here

First, congrats! Second, do you really want to start retirement by dealing with a government agency and jumping through hoops such as actively looking for employment? Your choice, but I recommend the drinking coffee on Monday morning without a care option. You won, time to stop playing.
