Looks like I'd gambled and lost

Thank you all for your support, I was asked about the symptoms: essentially I had lost some weight (which I realize in retrospect). My urine turned tea colored and I looked jaundiced. There was some vague discomfort in the upper abdomen, They did some tests and my liver enzymes and bilirubin are...

Looks like I'd gambled and lost

Thanks to all of you. Money is not my main concern, although the surgery, if they deem it resectable, and radiation and chemo may be costly, not to say debilitating. I was just thinking that life is certainly unpredictable. Here I am, I thought a perfect candidate for a long life. And to wake up...

Looks like I'd gambled and lost

I have never been sick. I had never been hospitalized or had any surgery. I did not have to take any medication. My father. a two packs a day smoker, died of lung cancer at 83. My mother is still alive and quite lucid at 93. So I figured I 'll wait till I am 70 to take out social security...

    Selling Cash-Covered Puts

Agree that selling covered calls have their downside. I sold a covered call after one of the stocks I bought had a huge drop, and I was trying to nibble at some premium to compensate psychologically and sold the call at what I thought was a safe spread but way below my purchase price. But the...

To ER or not to ER.....

I was involuntarily ERed although I have quite enjoyed my ER life and the the freedom. I am now facing a similar temptation as Nun. I know I did enjoy working (maybe not at the last place of work) but taking the new job will be even more logistically challenging than what Nun has to face...

    Capital Loss Carried Over

To show you how good a stock picker I am. I now have capital losses that had stemmed from my positions in GM (total loss) and SUNW. I have over $15000 to be carrired over from 2012. But in 2013, I incurred some more capital loss when a covered call I sold was called away at below my cost. The...

The High Cost of Early Retirement

The High Cost of Early Retirement - Yahoo Finance "It's possible to retire early if you're lucky enough to strike it rich, or if you plan ahead, watch your budget and want a more modest lifestyle. But the price tag for early retirement is high. For some people it's worth it, but it's not for...

    Your 2013 Investment Return

The stock market has a great run in 2013, with DJIA returned over 26% and the S&P 500 returned over 29%. How did you do this year? Mine did not come close to just putting everything in the bench marks because the fixed income portion pulled the returns down, but at around 18% in 2013, I'll take...

    $586 Million?

The winning ticket in San Jose was sold in a small gift shop (Jennifer's Gift Shop), and it will stand to get one million dollars for commission, which is tremendous for that small business.

    $586 Million?

I did not buy any ticket, not this time nor in any previous draws with big pots. I find this news story from Canada inspiring, and Mr Crist admirable. Calgary lotto winner Tom Crist to give $40M prize away - Calgary - CBC News The man won 40 million dollars Canadian in a lottery draw, and he...

    Backup/External HD Failure!

The disk spaces available nowadays on some hard drives are unbelievably large at 3 or 4 TB. I wonder who has that many files to back up, and what a disaster it will be to have a hard drive with that much data failed.
