51, ER in 11 months? Trying to escape golden handcuffs...

Another "close to" Austin... just down the road about 30 miles. No advice but I'd like to make your salary for about a year! I'd retire for sure then!

    How long is too long???

Thanks, Bryan, but I have done this... many times. Now it's MY time!

    How long is too long???

Thanks for the replies! I'm not stressed out, I'm BORED. I just want more out of life.

    How long is too long???

marko, I've worked in the SAME job for 20 years - State job - with no opportunity for anything better because of the unique skills needed for what I do. Could have started over in a different area but I'd lose all that I gained. Couldn't change locations because my wife is also employed here...

    How long is too long???

I felt that way this morning... not really nausea exactly but really yukky!

    How long is too long???

I know this is the same question asked over and over, perhaps in a slightly different way. How do you know when you've stayed in the same job TOO LONG!?! ...probably for the sake of all concerned, the employee as well as the employer. I think I'm there.

    Fear of the unknown?

Thanks, obgyn65, but you can see from my Join Date that I've been around for over a year. ;)

    Fear of the unknown?

I think we already are FI. Like I said in my first post (on this thread), it's more for my own self-fulfillment. I don't golf or fish so I (and especially DW) need something to keep us occupied. It's a long story but my side business is a true interest of mine and I've developed a lot of...

    Fear of the unknown?

Ahhh, the first one was PERFECT and I think worthy of resurrecting! Thanks! I'll read it often over the next six months. ;D

    Fear of the unknown?

I've already made my introductory post a while back but have not made a firm decision on when (if?) I'll pull the trigger. Problem was, DW was anxious about us not having enough money even though I was not planning on stopping work, just quitting the grind of the past 20 years and working on...

Poll: Do You Still Have Stuff From W*rk Days?

Technically, even though I'm not yet retired, I couldn't take anything that wasn't already mine. I work for the State so all the stuff that belongs to work, stays at work. Fine with me, I don't want any of it anyway! Being "from" work but something of mine that I took there, such as my...

    Class of 2012

I'm back..... I thought the DW was going to nix my plans but we just went to see her 83 y/o mother in a recovery hospital - where's she's been for a month - and it got her to thinking that maybe we SHOULD take advantage of whatever opportunity we have. I'm working on becoming a certified...

    The Value of Happiness

I think it's almost fool proof. I teach required CEU classes for people with a certain State license and the class they need to obtain the license. No overhead other than renting a room and a few handouts. Either they are in this business and they must have CEU's or they want to get into this...
