    Is it time to sell?

k, thanks for the input. I'll sell and maybe buy market index now or market time a bit. Can I get general consensus on these two stocks as well? I bought these around the same thing for same reasons as Target. Coke: Up 12% and it's past my sell target. Walgreens: Up 11% and I bought it...

    Is it time to sell?

I bought it thinking it's undervalued. Selling price at 52 week high b/c I figured it's a good dividend stock so it's bound to hit that high eventually. Until then, collect dividends. Ignored selling point b/c it kept going up and I was busy with other stuff so didn't really look at it. No...

    Is it time to sell?

I bought Target on 8/7/14 and it's gone up 25% since then. At that time, I think their revenue forecast was down and having some trouble with Canadian operation. I figured it's a good dividend play so it'll probably go back up. If not, I'll just hold onto it for dividends. It's got a solid...

Kids when young vs. kids when old(er)

We had our kids when both of us were 30. We saved quite a bit by then. Big part of our current portfolio is from that time. We paid off all our debt and retirement/college is pretty much funded (when it reaches those time periods). Now, we don't worry about money that much. My wife switched...

    Road to $1M

Thanks all for the responses. Seems the next 500k might be a little earlier than my original prediction. I'm planning to use this money when I'm 60 so these milestones really doesn't matter now but still it'll be good to see the 1M mark.

    Road to $1M

Hi, I recently hit a milestone of $500k. Pretty happy about that. I feel that I've hit this milestone much earlier than I expected... thanks to this bull market. From 500k to 1M, did you get there much earlier than you expected? Were you surprised by how fast you got there? Or was it...

    Simplify Allocation

Thanks all. I might combine TIP and bond to all bonds but looks like consensus is to keep REIT and small cap value. Ugghhh... hate rebalancing these but I guess I gotta suck it up.

    Simplify Allocation

Currently I have 6 funds in my portfolio. TIP, total bond index, total US market, total int'l market, REIT index, and small cap value index. I've simplified this from 10+ funds but this 6 seems too much now… I get lazy when it comes to rebalancing b/c it's a pain to reallocate 6 funds in 5...

34 Year Old With Inheritance Trying to Figure Things Out

Hey OP, I'm also 34 and an accountant. I'm married with 2 kids. Have sizable nest egg but no where near yours. I've been thinking about lack of passion and what I really want to do as well. Don't think kids can fill that void completely. Traveling/volunteering is not my thing, I like...

Gallup: Most People Hate Their Jobs or Have Checked Out

Question: Why do you think people fall in the "actively disengaged" category? I haven't read the article so apologies if this is already discussed. I've been in this career track for about 10 yrs now and I'm in the border line between actively engaged and the next category. I feel like the...

    90% / 10% too high?

Interesting take on thinking about cash/bond as the same bucket. We currently have 20k in cash and 50k in bonds (10% allocation) so 70k can last us about 1.5 yrs if I get laid off + market downturn. If I can collect unemployment, then the money will last 4 yrs. I'm pretty sure I can find...

    90% / 10% too high?

Thanks for the replies. I would feel more comfortable with 80/20 or 70/30 but I think the bonds are too expensive and equity is undervalued. When I see one of those .com bull markets in the next 26 yrs, then I'll switch it down.

    90% / 10% too high?

Our portfolio is 90% equity and 10% bond. This is for 401k and roth IRA so will be withdrawing in 26 years when we're 60. Back in 09, our porfolio dropped 40% and we were ok. Bought more into the market. Assuming we will keep it in there until we're 60, does it make sense to increase bond...

College Funding - what did you budget for your kids?

We have 2 kids (4 and 3) and have set aside 33k for each kid. I'm planning to save at least enough to cover UC tuition so maybe another 15k for each kid. Looking back my college years, I think it'll be important for them to work in college. I'm an accountant so I'm thinking, when they're...

One Income Family of 4 working towards FIRE! Feedback please!

Wow, we have very similar stats as you. We're both 33, kids 3 and 2, SAHW, net worth 400k, no house, accountant, and planning to retire at 52 or earlier. Biggest expense right now is kids preschool cost. We're paying $1,700 for both but my wife might go back to work part time.... or she...
