Should I stay or go (401k caps at 25%)

So much for those options...didn't get the job though I thought it was 100%. I'll get to start working with the chap that did get it in about a months time. I think I'll work harder to prove my worth and show the error of their ways. Perhaps get the other fellow to swap jobs with me instead...

    Severance Package and Unemployment Benefits

Yes you qualify. It was involuntary...you're entitled nto the unemployment benefits. Happened to me a few years back. Be sure to apply quick. It's trivial amount each week, but keeps the lights on and groceries paid. A tad more if you have dependents.

Should I stay or go (401k caps at 25%)

I'm already FI, just working to stay engaged. What are my blindspots, things to watch out for - I'm thinking new company if given same compensation as current - the ball park figure posting is already lower than what I make, I plan on asking for 120% as an opening salvo, but willing to be at...

    Howdy! 40 married w/ 4 kids

An update to being Fi It's been about 2.5 years.... I did return to w*rk to stay busy while my little kids are not yet in school. The local big corp, that has a bad reputation. Several of my acquaintances have worked for this corp in the past. I found a great manager and a supportive team...

Hello new to the site, seeking some advice/opinions.

Excellent work. Was curious - I'm assuming that you've got the kids in college now, how did that tuition plan work for y'all? Are the students paying their own expenses? Any change in your view of no contribution for graduate school if they will go that direction? Still looking at other...

Take Severance ? Need a Final Push!

Guess I'm too late to the comment party. I had the opportunity myself a couple years back - same situation, only a few years earlier than your age. Had a kid in the oven as well during the decision . Greatest choice. I felt renewed and new perspective. You still have your title history in...

    HSA vs Maxing out 401K

I've a long term view on savings. The HSA could be used for Medicare premiums later in life at least (that will be at least $2000/year or by then might be $3-4k. Nothing wrong with fed tax free, state tax free and fica tax free. And all of use have medical expenses eventually in life right...

    Hello

You are fine financially assuming the mortgage balance is something like $150k or less just based on the payment amount. You could do Roth conversions between now and 59.5 to get access those yearly contribution penalty free five years from now. Given your built up resources in taxable and...

    Loosening purse strings before retiring?

Definitely started loosening. FIREd in 2021, and unretired 2022. But on last trip, things that I normally don't spend on, I spent. Like and experience of a mountain coaster, spending on alcohol souvenir, a quick fast food snack of fries from Five Guys, a random soda from the store, and I...

Max out 401K in last year?

my plan allowed for employer matching trueup - so I did max it out completely before leaving. Its definitely worth the top-off in order to get the tax deferral.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Watched "Familiar Wife" on Netflix it's a drama/comedy look into what happens if you dread your current spouse and go back in time to change your decisions and then get a new spouse.

    How long should furniture last?

What comes to my mind as I hit the comment button is that moving parts always have the potential to break. An alternative is to buy an ottoman, no moving parts. And you could always buy a fabric cover when the material wears out. It's cheaper than a new LazyBoy, it downs cause any landfill...

Inflation: Official Rate vs. Observed Rate

I just wonder why no one complained about "inflation" the last time gasoline prices were high around >$4 gallon through most of the country. Personally my own CPI has not changed too much year on year. On groceries the same sales are happening - you just need to wait for a good price. For...

    ER @ 50...Can I realistically do it?

Definitely need to get DW on the same page. Show her the numbers and the simulation. You could probably go even sooner if you are able to cut those expenses down a tad bit. Just keep doing what you're doing, keep your eyes on other opportunities in case things head south for the Corp - (...
