    J&J vs Moderna/Pfizer

For those interested in reported side effects, this might be interesting. It only covers the 2-steppers, not JNJ. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2778441

Back to work and play from the COVID period

Agree on all the above. But how are companies going to effectively develop a unique culture with all remote workers. Then there's the question of loyalty - survey after survey says that people will stay in a tough job if they have a "best friend" at work. On the other side of the loyalty...

    SCHP stopped paying dividend?

Odd. I get that we may be in deflationary times, but the iShares TIP ETF follows the same index, and has paid dividends in 3 of the 6 months of 2020. And TIP's expense ratio is triple that of SCHP.

    COVID = More ERs?

is Corona driving the OMY crowd to ER? Reading this paper on corona related unemployment mentions that many of those unemployed aren't looking for new work. The author's only mention one possible cause of corona-induced ER - older folks already close to retirement age have more health risk...

    Silver, bronze, or catastrophic?

A theme in this thread is that various parts of the US have vastly unequal accessibility to wide-coverage plans such as PPOs and the BCBS BlueCard. Here are some resources I've used to identify which policies are available in each state: https://www.healthcare.gov/health-and-d ... d-issuers/ -...

Article On OMY (One More Year) Syndrome

Not only that, but as narrow as most state's ACA networks are - Medicaid is worse. If you actually might use the insurance, its probably better to realize enough income to be on ACA.

ACA modified Medicaid to remove resource and asset tests. https://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid/eligibility/index.html

Article On OMY (One More Year) Syndrome

Do you mean states that went for Medicaid expansion? Or if DGF is on an ACA plan, she is getting subsidies defined by Federal, not State laws. ACA plans don't have nationwide networks. In fact I think most snowbirds I've talked to wind up buying plans in each state in which they live part-year.

Article On OMY (One More Year) Syndrome

The article doesn't consider the costs of RE medical care. At least in the US, those costs can negate the tax benefits of Roth conversions and gain harvesting.

    Alcoholism

I'm going through this now with a relative. Much truth in this thead, special shout-out to Calico - my family tree is replete with many examples too. * they have to want to change, there's no forcing it * your refusal to help with housing/money will make you the bad guy to many * as painful as...

    Library perks worth looking for

+1 on the Kindle/Overdrive offerings Sadly the big libraries in my area now serve as daytime shelters for the homeless. Feel bad for these folks, but our family no longer feels comfortable going into the building. So our involvement with library services is limited to what we can do online.

    Reveal my intent??

It seems there is only one potential upside (being given a nice package) and many potential downsides (being laid off without a nice package and treated like garbage in the meantime) to your idea. Where I work, the only difference between resigning and retiring is that the person who is...

    liability for fraudulent HELOC draw?

Many on this forum advocate opening a HELOC before retirement. But the consequences of a thief making a fraudulent withdrawal on that line of credit seem very high... Locking your credit guards against a thief establishing a HELOC in your name, but not against stealing from an HELOC that the...

Sell Me on Fidelity rather than Vanguard

Fidelity and Vanguard are both first class operations but I intentionally separate the roles of asset custodian and asset manager to leverage each of their strengths: Fidelity has a far better website, much better customer support (especially in dealing with situations like Trusts), and local...
