Borrowing Against Investment Portfolio For Home Purchase

Just saw this thread while looking for some advice for DS. She and DBIL have just retired and are moving to another state. They quickly found a house and have put down earnest money. Their current house is in the process of being listed. No way will it sell in time for them to get the equity...

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024

We’re driving to our hotel in W. TN tomorrow, and we’ll travel to our viewing area in MO. on Monday. My SIL is a meteorologist and he is very optimistic that our viewing will be good!

    Check Your Grocery Receipts!

Our Food City chain of stores always has a selection of packaged meats “5 for $19.99”, along with packaged veggies “5 for $7.99”. Once a month, they put those on sale - $5.00 off the meats and $2.00 off the veggies. After not receiving the discount several times, and having to go to the...

    SpaceX Texas, solar eclipse

We’re planning to view the eclipse from Kennett, MO. We were very fortunate last time to only need to drive 30 miles from our home. It’s going to be an overnight trip this time!

    Dealing with modern pharmacy chains

We have used Walmart Pharmacy for the past ten years, and have been very pleased with the service we get. My DH had a new prescription last year which was $75 under our insurance and the Pharmacy Tech said let me check GoodRX, where it was $25. (I was shocked to find that prescription is zero...

    Getting around Dublin?

I second the Killmainham Gaol tour. I learned so much, and our tour guide was wonderful. We did the hop on/hop off bus when we first arrived, and took a cab to the Gaol, but walked everywhere else.

Bone Graft for a Dental Implant

This is what my graft material looked like, too. It was placed immediately after my extraction. I had no problems at all with the graft or my implant.

    Recommend an Alaskan Cruise

We are considering a cruise to Alaska this year. I would love any information about a preferred cruise line. We want to do the inside passage, but haven’t decided if we want to do a round trip or one way, so we’re open to either right now.

    Retiring on a cruise ship

Of all the things that would get boring, the inside cabin would be the least problematic for us. Both DH and I suffer from motion sickness. On our first river cruise, we opened the curtains in our cabin to enjoy the sun and the view, got one look at the movement of the water, and immediately got...

    Yellowstone, Custer SP, N & S Dakota

If you have time in Rapid City, there’s a Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines that is well worth a visit. Lots of skeletons, fossils, and minerals. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5. Regarding bison, we came upon one of the herds in Custer State Park and parked...

Do you take low dose aspirin?

Female here, and I’ve been on low dose aspirin for at least 15 years. My dad and brother both died from heart attacks and my sister had a stroke. I’ve had multiple stress tests, etc. because I have left bundle branch block, but I’ve never had an actual cardiac event. My PCP originally had me...

Trip Greenville SC and Nashville recommendations

In Nashville, if you like all-you-can-eat, country cooking, Monelle’s is fabulous! Think platters of fried chicken, country veggies, biscuits, cobbler. Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge has live music and is pretty low brow.

    Rant on Capital One

Re: the mail delivery times - we have had two instances in the past six months where mail was not delivered across town - once our mail to someone else, and once mail sent to us. Neither envelope has ever turned up.
