    Maintaining two homes

Do you close it up completely or do you go down even not during the Winter to work on it? Allegiant flies direct and cheap, so weekend visits are simple. I've already acquired some tools from second hand stores and pawn shops so I don't have to drive down to haul stuff. Sure makes you think...

Ideas on where to move after ER

I agree with Nash on the housing market, we bought our second home when the market was bottomed out. We spent 25+ years going to a certain area and thought we'd like to retire there, but after 5 years of ownership we're now trying to decide if we really do want to move there with all the hassles...

    Maintaining two homes

We would do some minor upgrades to sell, like carpet and paint, but new kitchens and baths wouldn't gain much if any more than we'd put into it. Those would be for our own snow birding and eventual moving there. The market is hot there right now so selling shouldn't be a problem. The other...

    Maintaining two homes

I haven't been on here in awhile. We both got our work hours reduced to have more 3 and 4 day weekends, which has kept us both in the work place longer. Fine I guess, since we're spending someone else's money for a while longer. We're nearing the point of ER and already have two homes. One is...

Ready, or just forgot how to have fun?

We have a huge house and estate we've built, at least by our standards, and done most all the work ourselves. Somehow we found time to build it between our 30's and 50's and enjoyed it, but now we can't keep it up. We still enjoy the place immensely, we do get real joy out of it, selling it now...

Ready, or just forgot how to have fun?

Thanks for the replies. Without getting into a lot of details let's just say that we lost a lot of core family in a short period of time. Lot of depression, denial, anger, the usual phases of grief. But we should be pulling out of it by now. Problem is there is no one left locally but us. We...

Ready, or just forgot how to have fun?

SO and myself have about everything we could want, except family. Most have died off, rest of our families fragmented after the patriarchs died. Anyway, we have a snowbird house in Florida, rent it to some friends and stay with them a few times a year, we rent it since we can't go stay for weeks...

Poll: How Many Of Us Are Professional Engineers

Professionals built the Titanic. Amateurs built the Ark. :)

Baseball Teams Are Acting Like Airlines

We have a minor league Hockey team. I've wondered why they didn't have dollar day for High School and College students, or even seniors to fill the seats. With 8000 seats and only about 1000 fans on a good day their idea was to close off the upper deck, which for Hockey is the best place to see...

Poll:How many of us are Engineers?

Started working on cars as my passion at a young age, took 3 years auto mechanics in HS, never went to college other than a few Tech classes, took a job in a textile mill as a mechanic, went to work building machinery from blueprints, went into the engineering department detailing, then...

Paying off the mortgage early grows in popularity

Not paying off your mortage when it's at a comfortable doable level is like taking a mortgage out on a paid for house at 3.5% in the hopes you can invest it and make 5% I'll take my paid off house anytime over those odds in this market.

    Help w/Inheritance

We paid off all our debt as soon as we could. Mortgage, cars, everything. Now we're able to spend what we make if we choose to any given month, the next month or so we might not spend anything and transfer a lump sum into our MM account, when we get a decent amount built in the MM we transfer it...

What's with the bathroom double sinks as a new standard of bath amenities?

Our Masterbath counter is 5' and we opted for the single sink in the middle even though the plans called for a double. If a buyer turned down our house because it had a single, and that's the only thing they didn't like, they watch to many house buying shows for that alone to be a deal breaker...

    Songs that make you dance

I'm not a dancer but anytime this comes on radio in the garage I can't help but stop what I'm doing, crank it up and start dancing and jumping around like I used to back in my 1970's arena concert days. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but she never knew me back then. Elbows on the stage, live concerts...
