Retire on 3k per month thoughts...

Are most people assuming health care is covered. I am not sure how you can plan for health care. Sure, I could do $3k/month NOW paying for private insurance, but dont know what health care is going to be costing. We are in our 30's, and health care for people in their 60's is more expensive, as...

Checking accounts with good interest rates?

I went through this exercise some months ago cause I dont like to be movig money between savings and checking. In order to write checks at Vanguard under $250 you need to get the Vanguard Advantage account. YOu can only sign up if you are a voyager (over $100k in assets) and it costs $30/yr, or...

Estate Planning when spouse holds a green card

Would all this be avoided if all our accounts were in my husbands name instead of joint. It might be tricky with the new accounts, but should bea easy to save all new money under his name. Since I should be able to inherit him easily. I trust him completely. I am assuming at some point I will...

Estate Planning when spouse holds a green card

I was wondering, is this all based on the status of the spouse at death, or could a spouse become a US citizen after the fact and before the estate taxes are due get to skip all this?

Estate Planning when spouse holds a green card

I find this topic very interesting, my spouse is a green card holder. Most of our holdings are joint, joint brokerage accounts and the house is held jointly too. Are we "transferring assets" if we are both owners of something? Is this a way around?

Is our attitude toward work different than general population?

I guess it sounds like I am in the minority. I am work-averse. I love the movie Office Space cause Peter Gibbons describes my feelings so well when he talks about "his dream of doing nothing" "I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be"

    WANTED: Great Retirement Location

Surprised no one mentioned Vancouver, WA. I was considering, seems like you would get the double whammy of no income tax and no sale tax since its almost part of Portland. Also you are still pretty close to Seattle and the real estate is a lot cheaper than here in Bellevue. We could get a house...

    Retiring to Europe

All this sounds incredibly complicated. I am kind of wondering how the average Joe who would just pick up and go would ever figure out what the correct thing to do is. My head is spinning. Im wondering if maybe having all our money in a joint account with my money might not be the best thing...

    Retiring to Europe

We are considering retiring early, one of the biggest expenses and unknowns is health care. We are thinking of moving to Europe, which has a nice socialized health care system. My husband is a European citizen, and I am an American. As far as I can tell, from what I have read here and there...
