    Being debt free is great but I wouldn't cash out my retirement savings to do it. It will all be taxed as ordinary income. Also, I believe you are limited as to how much you can take out before 59.5 without being penalized. Congratulations on the early retirement.

    Looking at HPF

    I have been buying HPF for about a year in my IRA. On a total return basis I am just slightly positive due to the share price decline. It is currently selling at aroung 9 to 10% discount to NAV. I intend to hold it for a long time and collect the dividends.

    + 7.6% total return in 2004. Allocation is slightly less than 40% equities. More would have been nice, as it turns out. Balance in I-bonds, zero coupon treasuries, preferreds. Best performance was by International & REIT funds. Portfolio at record high. No significant changes planned in 2005...

    Difference between I Bonds and TIPS??

    earlyout, have also been buying I-bonds with cash-back credit card. you mention that this can be done until 12/03. will we no longer be able to pay with credit card after that date ? thanks
