Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2022 - Please post updates here

You got me to log into paypal and look up more details. Funds are held at Synchrony Bank via partnership with paypal. However, there are a lot of fees and fine print details, including: Your cash funds held in balance are FDIC insured if you have: - Enrolled in Direct Deposit or - Bought...

Is it just me or are things actually bad at multiple levels these days?

Thanks for this. Another book along these lines is "Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World — and Why Things Are Better Than You Think" by Rosling. He doesn't dismiss today's problems, but one of his points is that more of the world's population than ever is able to live at a...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2022 - Please post updates here

Has anyone used the Paypal saving account which is now offering 0.85% APY? It seems like a decent rate and maybe convenient for someone who already has a paypal account, but I haven’t heard much about it. Any gotchas?

    Smoothies anyone!!

Just got a Nutribullet to replace our old blender. So far it's great, though I worry it'll leak eventually. My fav so far is 1/2c plain yogurt, 2tb flaxseed, half a banana, and as many greens (usually spinach or kale) as I can stuff in, probably about 2cups greens. Seems pretty healthy.

    What was your greatest epiphany?

Realizing the power of apologies. In college, my boyfriend and I had a bad fight and I took a walk on campus to sulk. I replayed the argument over and over in my mind, trying to justify why I was right. It really did hit me suddenly that I could admit being wrong, apologize, and that would be...

    Train Travel in these times

Last year I took Amtrak's Southwest Chief from Chicago to LA in a roomette, stayed a week and flew back. It was delightful! I'd planned for delays based on reputation, but we arrived punctually in LA despite an hour or so waiting on tracks in Colorado, I forget why. As was mentioned, meals are...

Who takes turmeric supplements and why?

I don't take supplements but do add grated turmeric to a lot of my food. It's a mild flavor and I enjoy the taste, in addition to possible health benefits. Add it to oatmeal with dried berries and sliced almonds, zested into lattes with ginger and black pepper, meat marinades, etc. Whole Foods...

    Painful Dry Weather Finger Splits

Lots of great ideas in this thread, thanks! I haven't seen this mentioned yet: skin needs both oil and water. I use simple products for most skincare, like apricot oil or shea butter, bought in bulk. What works best for me is to apply the oil with slightly wet (more than damp) hands. Run a few...

Recommendation for KN95 mask for woman with narrow face

I have a small face and use the Korean KF94 masks. Similar standard to KN95, and they're often tri-fold with adjustable ear loops. Easily available on Amazon.

Best wire-free mask(s) to wear during an MRI?

The simplest way might be to find a mask where the nose wire can be removed. Use a band-aid or athletic tape to secure it around the bridge of your nose.

    Flu Shots 2020

I feel similarly, so googled for “drive up flu shot” in my area. Around here (Chicago), the Jewel Osco stores are having scheduled outdoor flu shot clinics. Pulled into the parking lot and saw a table by the entrance, one car parked there. I had filled out their consent form online ahead of time...
