    Friggin leaking hose connection!

Also, washers differ and they don't last forever. If they're made of plastic, they're junk. Buy the pink ones that feel like pencil erasers, and plan to replace them annually. They actually compress a little, whereas the hard black ones will leak with a little bit of dirt present.

Long Wait Time to get Appointment with Dermatologist

In my mega health care system, my dermatologist's normal cycle is about 5 months. But she sees me on a 4-month recall cycle. When I see something that needs attention, I've learned to call her nurse. They have some reserved slots the appointment-bookers cannot see. Once she asked if I could be...

    Medicare - False Diagnosis ??

I would tell him, "If it's no big deal, take it off." There is a risk she might need care, and an unfamiliar doctor (or even one in your same town) would see that and take off down the wrong diagnostic path.

    TMobile internet

I replaced a cable-based Frontier or Spectrum system -- I forget which -- with a T-mobile Small Business (cellular) Internet system last summer. The eight people who use it used to gripe about whatever system I used to have, but I have literally heard not one word since this went in. The "Small...

What Debit/Credit Card Do You Use When Travelling To The UK?

The Fidelity Rewards CC, now that they dropped the foreign transaction fee. Backup is Chase Sapphire Preferred. ATM card is from Stanford FCU, one of the few international-fee-free ATM cards I could find at the time. It's actually a Visa Debit card, but I only keep a few hundred in the account.

State Tax Refund Lost In Mail

Try to meet the carrier when s/he is at the mailboxes. Report the problem and ask the carrier if there's anyone with a pile of mail in their box that might indicate they're away, and if the carrier would take a peek if so.

    Looking at Aetna or AARP/UHC

I like to suggest to folks considering Plan G to compare the numbers from Plan N, especially if they have relatively few in-office doctor visits. When I signed up, it was several hundred a year cheaper. The only real difference is that Plan N has a co-pay of up to $20, but it only applies to...

    I got phished

Do you have a "sent" folder? You may have a copy of the message you forwarded to the SSA Inspector. But it may not have the original headers still.

Wow - complete disregard for decedent

The OP's very title to this thread -- wow - complete disregard for decedent -- is not consistent with taking care of someone's needs for four years. I think there is more going on than was presented here; perhaps more between OP and the caretaker semi-relative, or between decedent and caretaker...

    I got phished

This (the timed callback) was my guess. Another possibility is that someone called SSA and requested a callback, and entered your number by mistake, possibly mistyping a digit. Then you called and requested a callback too; when you received it, I don't know why they disconnected -- but if Joe...

$100 bills are hard to use.

That would make for a very unpleasant weekend for the bank staff, and I would find it troublesome if we were away on a trip. I keep two or three in the safe for payment of the handyman for small jobs (none of which cost less than $100 it seems) or irresistible deals that come up on Marketplace...

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024

I'm in the totality path, good for a little over 3 minutes, and have a campsite good for almost 4 minutes only 90 miles to the west. Or we could drive about 45 minutes NW, but they say traffic will be awful. BUT chances of clear skies in Indiana in early April are only about 50%. So we'll have...

PSA: How To Tie A Bathrobe Properly

Two problems: the annoyance of having to undo one side to get out, and early failure of a loop from too much forward force and repetitive manipulation. Solution one: an actual knot, not just looping the belt. Tested by me since 1952. Works OK. Solution two: put a button on one end of the loop...

Getting an elderly parent to give up living alone

I've seen ads for "occupancy sensor" thingies on my Yahoo feed recently. I am sure there is one of those, or a camera, or a security system, that can be set to alert someone if unexpected stuff happens (front door opens at 3am), or expected stuff doesn't (no one walks past the bathroom door for...

Examples of current inflation - add yours!

I found I had two old bottles of hydrogen peroxide, which of course degrades to -- water. One had an expiration date of 2021 and it still had a little fizz when I poured some out. The other was dated 2013 -- two moves ago!! -- and it was quite flat. The replacement bottle was only $1.09 for 16...
