Has Anyone STOPPED Watching/Reading the News?

I rarely watch the news, we don't have a TV right now. I oftentimes listen to the local NPR station and read the papers and some periodicals online. News for profit most certainly has issues.

    Your recent repair? 2013 - 2020

I've been fixing up the snow blower and the lawn mower. They are getting up in years but both seem to have lots of life left in them. The deck on the lawnmower was cracked and needed welding. That and a can of paint cost me $25. The snow blower needed a drive cable an oil change and a minor tune up.

We moved to our retirement home in May and are well settled. Packing took a few weeks, unpacking took a day and a half... :) We finally closed on our former residence early this week. Mortgage here was paid off that very day. I retired in April at age 59. DW who just turned 62 continues to...

    Sciatica!!!

Hi HadEnuff, My wife went though something similar. It came on after a cross Atlantic flight and persisted for almost a year. She had the epidurals, the PT and eventually moved on to acupuncture. It's anecdotal but within a few sessions, the pain began to subside. The insurance didn't cover the...

Adjusting expectations with new asset allocation

Not having had to rely on savings to generate income made the volatility of the more aggressive mix a lot easier to stomach. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Adjusting expectations with new asset allocation

I'm going to roll over my 401k into an IRA and at the same time adjust my AA from an 80 - 20 to a 50 - 50 mix. My AA has been aggressive throughout my accumulation years and I'm wondering how will this more conservative mix meet my expectation and what kind of an adjustment am I in for.

Joining the ranks of the retired

I won't call it buyer's remorse but that smile I was wearing post resignation has been somewhat tempered by a sense of loss. My colleagues were so open hearted and gracious with me this last week.

Thanks Gumby, Ah!!.. Damariscotta is one of the many great little towns that we've visited but haven't really explored yet. The theater there will likely be our first stop as well as the many great waterfront restaurants. I'm told by locals that each town has its own vibe. Our real...

    Do You Toot?

I generally try to avoid doing it. But there's one light that I'm oftentimes queued for at a complex intersection near where we live. It's green every 3-4 minutes for a very short period (10-15 seconds). I'm all over it if someone ahead of me at that light isn't paying attention.
