    Pensions - Got one?

Dh and I both have state non-cola pensions. Our other retirement income streams are SS (he's collecting, I have 3 more years til I can collect), part-time job for him, savings, and Roth IRA accounts for both of us. We haven't touched the IRAs but they are there if needed.

How did you pay (or how are you paying) for college for children?

Oldest son had tuition covered by military benefits so we covered room/board, food and transportation. We paid tuition, room/board for second son. He worked part-time for his transportation costs. Both had part time jobs while in school but we wanted them to concentrate on studies so work...

Yes, we took out an umbrella policy when our sons were teenagers and have continued on with it. $1M...wouldn't do without it out.

Moving away from kids in retirement

Our older son, wife and two grandsons live approx. 2 hrs from us. Fortunately we see them at least two times a month for 2-3 days at a time. Our younger son lives about 1500 miles away. We were lucky enough to visit him twice in the last 6 months and hoped to see him at our home for...

    Planning vs. over-planning for retirement

Financially I planned our retirement for years and then DH retired two years sooner than I thought he would. (I was already retired a lot sooner than I had planned...long story) Worked out fantastically! DH then decided he wanted somewhere to go and something to do so he went back to work...

    Thread--downsizing and house selling

Sold a few items including one of the atvs to a friend. Two more to go but same friend has called dibs on those when we are ready. Yippee! Goodwill had a semi parked about one mile from our house for months so most Saturdays I was donating a box/bag or two of items we no longer need. Will start...

    Anyone got any travel planned?

We made it to San Diego in April (we're Midwesterners), heading to Napa Valley in a few weeks for a family wedding, then southern Arizona in Feb. (free place to stay) and St George, Utah next September because it's been on our bucket list for years. Will visit Zion, Bryce and north rim of Grand...

    What was Your Workout Today?

Recently purchased a bike so have now added that to my exercise routine. (avid walker/hiker/snowshoer) Unfortunately a few days ago I was diagnosed with a torn annular disc (L4/5 region) so the biking isn't progressing like I had hoped. Only managed 7 miles today and only a 2 mile hike...

    Magazine Subscriptions ?

Had $$ left on an Amazon card so I subscribed to HGTV and DIY mags. Hubby gets Family Handyman...I think it was a gift from his boss. Used to get Kiplingers and Money but now I read those if I'm at Barnes and Noble.
