I'd like to learn how to make better food

Mark Bittman - How to Cook Everything - great book by the NYT food writer. He works in a teeny Manhattan kitchen and still makes wonderful recipes! I was very lucky to grow up in an Italian family where I watched my mother cook all my life. Then I became friends with a really wonderful cook...

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Worked for one hour this morning, walked the dog early to beat the heat and all day I've been sitting in front of a fan. The SF Bay Area's summer climate has changed so much from when I was a kid - we never had hot, hot summers like this. Looking for a cooler climate to move to to!!

    Independent Contractor and Taxes

The amount is about $400 a month before taxes and it cannot be in cash, this is a big company. I'm also trying to figure out of if it is worth my time, it's one hour a day of online work. It's about 1/4 an hour of what I used to make in my real job. I would get a on-call job doing the work I...

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

I just started doing some online work this week so did that this morning. Then spent many minutes on hold with Wells Fargo trying to rectify an error. Now on hold with another department with the CA Franchise Tax Board, after I was on hold for 18 minutes with the first department. Thank...

    Scientist wannabes?

I was thinking law school as well but I would want to work in non-profit, therefore the cost of the education is not worth it. Would be cheaper to do paralegal certificate though it is an outlay for a good program.

    Independent Contractor and Taxes

This is a question for the independent contractors out there. I just signed on to do some contract work, I won't be earning much, let's say enough for some nice lunches and to pay a few small bills every month. I have to take out for SS and Medicare and I assume I will have to do estimated...

I look at Trulia a lot for South Tahoe and there's a wide range of prices.

    Why retire early?

I had spent 9 years caring for my elderly mother and when she died I just thought - that's it! Life is short and I have diabetes and I wanted to care for myself and enjoy life. I was also tired of the bullsh*t of the management where I worked and how I was being treated and I was a manager as...

What is the last thing you ordered from Amazon?

Malden Sea Salt and packing supplies - bubble wrap and packing paper - to start packing for my eventual move. LOVE Amazon Prime!

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Slow morning surfing the net outside in the backyard with my cup of coffee and my dog and cat sitting next to me. Went to IKEA to get more storage containers - very cheap! Found some new soft containers that zip and in went my large comforters and extra blankets. Finally found the floor of my...

    The Genetics of Saving

My father was a self-employed barber and grew up during the depression. He was extremely tight with the money - I had to beg for new school clothes. However, I don't know how much of a saver he was. I know that his entire retirement plan consisted of selling our house eventually. All of my...
