@NW-Bound, is this happening in a taxable account or a tax-advantaged account or both? What's the tax situation like? I know that when I sold covered calls more than 20 years ago, all the profits were short-term just like ordinary income and taxed accordingly.

Sold the shares of AVUV that I picked up last week for a small profit. I was not helped by the drop that AVUV took on Friday. Also I captured the dividend which helped a little bit that will not be reflected in the share price. 041

With Total US Stock Market Index slightly up for the day and AVUV (small-cap value) down more than 3% today, I think it makes sense to buy AVUV and sella little VTI, so I did. 862 I expect AVUV to go back up in a few days and I will try to sell it if it goes up. If it goes down, then I will...

So far those previous bond ETF trades have not turned out like I predicted. Total US Bond Index has continued to go up more than Short-term corporate bond index has gone up. There goes my lunch money for today. 006

I made a transaction today. Since the Total US Bond Index was up 0.4% today, I sold a bunch of shares because this fund doesn't usually go up that much without falling back down in days after. 0.4% is more than many savings accounts will earn for the entire year. But I didn't want to have the...

Posting in this thread is perfectly OK with me and welcome. I made some profitable trades recently, but didn't post them. But I like to post things as they happen, so I feel I cannot say more than that. However, the portfolio did get reduced in value because I bought my wife a new car for...

Analysis paralysis - meeting with a FA tomorrow

That's an old myth that we really need to stop perpetuating or at least change to something factual such as: "An old joke is that the best performing accounts at Fidelity, etc. are owned by people who either forgot about them or DIED."

Analysis paralysis - meeting with a FA tomorrow

I cannot help you, but maybe reading Morgan Housel's "The Psychology of Money" would be helpful to you? It is a quick read, but I doubt you can get through it by the time you meet with the sales rep from Schwab unless you buy a digital version today.

Right. One had to lose a million dollars first, too.

As expected small-cap value ETFs are up today, so I should have bought yesterday anyways. I missed it. 668

I submitted a limit order to buy some shares of AVUV (small-cap value). I currently own no shares of this ETF. If the limit is not reached by end of day, I will probably change to a market order unless the price pops up from here. 425 I intend to sell the shares if they go up more than 1.5%...

    Advice on Fidelity Decisions

Use Fidelity for its HSA, its Donor-Advised-Fund, its 2% cashback card, its index funds, the no-commissions on ETFs, and its Analysis tools on its web site. Do not use Fidelity for its people. There is no reason really to ever talk to them nor let them put their hand in your pocket.

    Grandsons saved money VS 529

Generally, children have such low incomes that they pay no income taxes. A 529 plan is a way for wealthy parents not to pay income taxes on investment gains when their children go to college. If you are not wealthy and you do not pay taxes on your investments, then there is almost no...
