Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2024 - Please post updates here

I have to admit my crystal ball is a little cloudy but I have a contrarian view. Government debt will continue to crowd out private debt; the demand for this debt is not infinite; interest rates will have to rise from here.

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2024 - Please post updates here

Sorry, it originally wasn't paywalled for me. In part: "The $674bn US institutional prime money market funds sector is set to shrink by at least one-third this year, as large investment firms shut down these vehicles rather than pay for upgrades needed to meet new regulations. Cash managers...

Will the new SEC rules regarding Institutional MM funds affect any of us with funds at Schwab, Fidelity, or Vanguard? https://www.ft.com/content/c0753ee8-3025-445d-ab44-ec957c09079b Marc

How to deal with taxable holdings with large gains

I have about 500K in QQQ with a basis of $50K. In Texas when one spouse dies the other gets stepped up basis at that time. So, our plan is to not touch this until the first dies. The other option is to figure out a year (or maybe multiple years) prior to RMD where we do not need more than...

Equities Return are Stellar - should I withdraw some now or wait end of year?

I try to keep two years expenses in cash. I also don't like to sell in a down market. For last five years I have been able to only sell when market is going up. My plan has been to sell $30K every time S&P reaches an even 100 such as 5100 or 5200. I have been doing this since market crossed...

What kind of stock/bond mix you looking at in retirement?

100% stock funds until I turned 50; slowly moved to 60/40 by time I retired at 60. Since then, I have aimed for 55/35/10 keeping two years in expenses in cash so that I never have to sell stock funds (or bond funds) in a down market. Currently at 59/33/8 with almost enough cash in IRA to cover...

Treasury Bills, Notes, and Bonds Discussion 2024+

Fidelity actually pulls from FZDXX (at least in my rollover IRA), no need to move funds to a lower paying MM account.

Treasury Bills, Notes, and Bonds Discussion 2024+

I continue to be surprised at how much 4 week, 42 day, 8 week, and 13 week inventory is being sold at higher rates than one year or longer; why is the government paying more than they need to? I know I should be looking at one year CDs but I like the income from 42 day and 26 week Treasures...

Cruising - How did you start doing it?

I have sailed on over 40 cruises all booked through travel agents. Started out on the one week caribbean and now prefer 30 - 90 night cruises. I only cruise luxury cruise lines with max of 750 passengers. Travel agents will get you kickbacks as high as 10% or in some cases more. Not using a...

Uh Oh! TT What are you doing to me?

This thread has been eye opening for me; I had always thought the direct download from Fidelity was the big selling point. Ends up I take one number from 1099-INT; ordinary and qualified dividends from 1099-DIV; and amount of withdrawals from IRA on 1099-R. Only other number on our tax return...

Uh Oh! TT What are you doing to me?

I also got my last 1099 from Fidelity this morning so I went into TT. Three issues. First my tax due was over $2,000 more than my back of the envelope I calculated a couple of weeks ago. Second, the 1099-INT showed up as being downloaded but would not get added in. Third, I could not locate...

    QQQ Special Dividend 01/15/24

For the first time (that I remember) I received a dividend on 15 January 2024 even though I received the normal dividend on 29 December 2023. Found money? Today I got my last 1099 from Fidelity and they show that $227 paid on 15 January 2024 on my 2023 1099; anyone know why? thanks, Marc
