    Anticipating a tax increase

In addition to getting forced into the 28% bracket (or whatever it will be then), the 401k/IRA is a ticking tax time bomb. Scott Burns refers to it as the Torpedo Tax. While the tax rate tranches are indexed, the taxable amounts for SS benefits are not. I can envision most using a tax deferred...

Health Insurance policy for 50-64 y-olds

That quest starts Monday. I just found out about the reject on Saturday.

Health Insurance policy for 50-64 y-olds

My COBRA expired the end of October. I applied for Humana and was rejected. I haven't received the paperwork yet, so I don't know why. I'm very healthy, but I had a colonoscopy and a cat scan performed before my current insurance expired and I think it scared Humana away.

IRA to Roth Conversion - related question on taking SS later

I'm no expert, I still trying to figure out the dryer sheets. I want to think that the perfect storm involves delaying SS to no later than 70, using up all your tax deferred money until you take SS, then using Roth money with SS money for the rest of life. This would remove the tax torpedo and...

Have you ever heard of the "infinite banking" concept?

Have you ever heard of the "infinite banking" concept?

Well, I went to the seminar last night. 3 hours! It was interesting. He talked about his company's flavor of the infinite banking concept. Sort of a hybrid of Nash, Doug Andrews (Missed Fortune) and others. The first 2 hours where the setup to the wonderful tool to get all this tax free...

Have you ever heard of the "infinite banking" concept?

I listened to the Cram guy on a talk show from the site. The info sounded interesting until he started talking about network marketing as a wonderful thing! Thanks, Mark

Have you ever heard of the "infinite banking" concept?

I agree 100%. That gives me 3 options. Don't learn and don't invest, learn about it and don't invest, or learn about it and invest. I'm hoping this group can help me with the last 2 now. Thanks, Mark

Have you ever heard of the "infinite banking" concept?

Several months ago I can across a thread on another board asking about the infinite banking concept. I did a little googleing and it looked convoluted to me. Looks like a way to sell insurance, but it really wasn't clear. Anyway, some company is doing local seminars this week and it looks like...

Think twice before converting to a ROTH.

There appears to me to be another benifit of converting to a Roth that I don't see mentioned that much. When one converts to a Roth, you no longer have to worry about the 70 1/2 rules about required distributions and the taxes and penalties if you do that wrong. Am I right?

An annuity in anticipation of medical breakthroughs

brewer12345: I have been lurking for a while and I know that you know a lot more than me. I kind of thought it was nutty too, but I do appreaciate your response. Thanks, Mark

An annuity in anticipation of medical breakthroughs

Let me say that this thought of mine is WAY out in left field, but I would like to propose it to this group and get you opinion. I expect that there will be a number of major medical breakthroughs in the next 25+ years that will greatly extend the lifespan of humans. It would seem to me that if...
