    98% in short-term cds paying average 2.5%. Won the game, and while I have the ability to take risk by owning stocks, do not have the need nor the desire to assume that risk.. would rather have return 'of' principal, rather than return 'on' principal.

    Retirees, does SS cover all your needs?

    Started taking SS at 65 so DW could get spousal benefit. Using the SS to cover living expenses and also to pay taxes on Roth conversions for the next 5 years before RMDs start. Usually need to take about $10,000 from tIRA to cover expenses.. we live pretty frugal lives so it seems to be working...

    Alternatives for cash (Fidelity)

    One reason to keep some Roth money in a money market is for an emergency fund. You can take it out tax-free. Comes in handy if your old clunker finally dies, or you need a new roof.

    Retirees are too frugal!

    Frugal... until... I'm frugal in most of my spending.. until disaster strikes! Just had my 25 year old gas oven crap out. Having to buy a new one and it ain't cheap! Makes me glad I don't blow a lot of my retirement money on stuff I really don't need.
