Anybody Here Own LTC (Long Term Care)

I would not assume the feds group LTC is cheaper than individual. If you are in good shape, under 60 with good family history, you should do better with an individual policy.

Rivers, kayaking, fishing, nature- my sole criteria

That is my primary passion in retirement. If I can find that at a reasonble price. Where are some of the best places for this? I am looking at the Crystal River/ Homosassa area of Florida. Seeking some good suggestions that I can research and check out.

    New Hampshire

I live in Southwestern NH in the Peterborough ("Our Town") area. Called the "Quiet Corner" or the Currier & Ives section of NH. Very pretty and still rural. Only one traffic light in Peterborough yet it has a lot of culture. A lot of outdoor activities- hiking, kayaking, fishing, biking, etc...

    Own two houses?

We owned two houses for awhile in the 80's. One was on a lake 50 min from our primary residence. I did find it a hassle of having two of everything, but in the summer coming home to the kids swimming off the dock, golden sunsets, etc was great. When kids got older they wanted to be with their...

    Expected returns? Professional Advisors?

I heard that investment managers don't create returns, markets do. Probably a lot of truth to that. Therefore, due to the fact that no one can predict what the future markets are going to do, a well diversified portfolio is about the second best you thing you can do. (The first is just getting ...

Help me fill in the blanks

Right now a 1 year CD yields about 5% and the CPI-U is at about 3.5% annual rate. So, are you all saying that this is somewhat of an anomaly due to Fed actions or some reasons? I suppose that they have been long periods where short term rates had a negative real return. Duh! now that I think of...

    Major Vulture Attack in Progress

Cut it off decisively or it will never end. If foreclosure process starts help her find a good bankruptcy attorney and the filing will stop the process for a while. Maybe she can go Chap 13 and work it out. She probably has lots of other debt.

Help me fill in the blanks

Basic assumptions: Fully retired;  3% WDR fills gap; Firecalc says 100% SWDR to age 100 with 50-50 equity/FI; recently on SS; assume inflation rate about 3.5%. If short term interest rates reach ____% I would (A) make my equity weighting _____% (B) bid the stock market a fond farewell and put...

Question for experienced landlords regarding lease

What do you want to protect yourself against? Good leases are important but make sure you have adequate insurance (make sure your insurance agent knows what you are doing). You could also consider putting the rental house in a separte entity if you want to go that far, esp. if you have a lot of...

Double fooey on downsizing. fooey! fooey and fooey again!!

Sorry, for the lack embodiment on my post. I had a large portion of my land in a category that this state taxes at practically nothing. The house has doubled in value since I sold it for $365,000 some years ago. Of course I am up more than that in the retirement portfolio and my net worth has...

Double fooey on downsizing. fooey! fooey and fooey again!!

Several years before I ER'd I went with the standard line of downsizing the hacienda. Kids had left home so no little slaves to help with maintaining the brick McMansion on a beautiful piece of land. As it turns out, it has been the biggest financial blunder of my entire life. I could have paid...

    The "New" Value Stocks

I probably should not say this, but I can tell you from a tax practiioner point of view, the IRS   >:  Dcurrently has no automated way of checking the detail information on Sch. D.  That is why nobody you know has ever gotten a letter questioning line items on Sch, D. I am not advocating fudging...
