    First Day of Retirement!!

Congrats!! I too had my first day of retirement on April 1st. I still get up around 5am but I'm fine with that, I can take a nap. I've been packing, and packing, and packing as I am moving next weekend. I hope to really relax and take it easy for awhile after I get settled.

    Landlord Problem-Too many applicants . . .

I only have one rental and use a management company since it is almost an hour from me. When I first rented it and didn't have a tenant in one month I myself put an ad on Craigslist and the contact as the management. Apparently they got a lot of response because the management co. wasn't...

    Class of 2016

Today was my last day at work! Went to the bank and deposited my last paycheck, won't get the severance pay until April 15th. I'm not doing anything for the next 3 days, until Monday, then I'll continue to pack for the POD storage delivery in two weeks. Turned off my two alarms this morning...

    Embarrassing situation. Help appreciated.

The cost is based on how much they pick up and they will give you a price before they start. I had an entire truck load the first time.

    Longevity and Retirement.

Anyone done genetic testing? I did the 23AndMe and then uploaded my gene file to Prometheas.com. For $5 you get a health report that has a LOT of info. Diseases you are prone to, things to watch for. Mine has a warning to not take a certain cholesterol medication as it could cause very bad...

    Recent Photo

That hair is beautiful! I do want purple streaks but, I've previously used henna. I tried the purple in a test streak and it only turned the grey purple, it made the rest just really dark. I am hesitant to do anything damaging after so many years of protecting it. My eldest sister has...

    Recent Photo

Probably my most recent photo, and the last one taken at work! Been growing my hair for a few years. When it started getting noticeably long my daughter said, "Mom! When are you going to cut your hair?!" I said, "When I'm sitting on it."

    What We're Making

Patriotic Quilt I made this for my niece and her Army Ranger husband, gave it to them yesterday. Don't remember exactly how long it took, at least a month, probably more, after work and weekends. The quilting took a few weeks to do on my longarm machine. I call it "13 Colonies". When I was...

What did you do today? 2016 version

I don't remember exactly. Probably a month or more piecing (after work) but I do know that it took weeks to do the quilting.

What did you do today? 2016 version

I gave a quilt to my niece and her Army Ranger husband at a family BBQ yesterday. He did tours in Iraq and Afganistan in regular Army then four more as a Ranger, reaching the rank of Master Sargeant. I call it 13 Colonies. There are 13 stars, including the middle, and 13 separate quilted...

    Embarrassing situation. Help appreciated.

Yes, have garbage pickup but only 1 small can service since it's just me so there isn't a whole lot I can throw out each week. When my father passed and left a house full of 50 years of accumulation (he liked to thrift shop), we put everything out on a blanket on the lawn. It was gone the next...

    Retiring at 53

Since the house purchase price was only $115k there's not a huge amount there. Not like a $400k house or something. Or, I could move into the house for 2 years and then sell it. When I'm ready to make that decision I'm sure I'll run the numbers. Would probably cost me more in mortgage cost...

    Embarrassing situation. Help appreciated.

1-800-GOTJUNK may be an option. I am moving out of my 5 bedroom house in mid-April and I've been slowly packing for a month. Everything I didn't want, I literally THREW into the middle of the garage (which also needed clearing). I mean dressers, headboards, old electronics, garbage...

    Retiring at 53

Nah, he's happily married. We've sat next to each other for about 8 years, a lot of talking over the wall. He does know that if I hadn't retired, he would have been let go. He gave me a heartfelt thanks for that too.

    Retiring at 53

A co-worker gave me a card today since I won't see him next week. He wrote, "I'll never truly be able to express my sincere thanks for everything you've done for me. Your charm, your grace, your humor, your smarts, everything about you has made working in a challenging environment bearable! I...
