How is the Match taxed on a Roth 401k?

SECURE 2.0 allows your son to specify that the match be put in his Roth 401K account. He will have to pay tax on the amount. Under previous rules, Roth 401K matches went into Traditional 401K accounts and were taxed when withdrawn.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office is both gripping and moving. Toby Jones is very good as usual, but the cast has many other familiar names/faces. We're also looking forward to the next episode of Shogun released today.

Treasury Bills, Notes, and Bonds Discussion 2024+

    Pull from HSA now?

If you have a good money market option in your HSA and you don't need cash pronto, you could put your planned distributions into the MMF, and withdraw at year-end. (If you're with Fidelity, you can obviously do treasuries/CDs.) I skipped withdrawals entirely in 2023, and won't take any in 2024...

    Pull from HSA now?

I have a related question. I understand the rule is you can get reimbursed years later for an expense that was incurred and paid when the HSA was open. What happens when you transfer or do a rollover from one HSA to another? Say you have HSA1, pay for a medical expense, and save the receipt...

    Blow that Dough 2024

Two new Pixel 8 phones - one for DW and one for me. My Moto is over six years old, only has 32 GB of storage, and seems to have slowed down considerably. I am still sorry to be saying goodbye to it.

What is the best way to pay estimated Federal Taxes in Retirement?

The 110% safe harbor doesn't always work well. I did a big Roth conversion last year. For various reasons, I'll do a much smaller one this year. 110% of last year's tax will be a substantial overpayment for me.
