8/18 mail in ballot requested 9/28 county mailed ballot to me 10/9 received ballot 10/12 mailed ballot back 10/19 county received ballot 10/22 ballot (signature) approved. The 2 week wait to get my ballot was rather bothersome. I know there will be complaints about “fraudulent” mailed in...

Doublechecking something about FIREcalc. Basic question, really.

Yes that value should be inflation adjusted for today’s money. However there is a tab to see what they are using for inflation. If you download the tabulated csv files I do not believe those are inflation adjusted.

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

I would say better ones are on a chemistry/metallurgical time frame. Maybe some of that in manufacturing as well. I don’t really understand numbers on the batteries required for supercharging - I’m sure Tesla is able to calculate grid supply and battery needs. I don’t think it is that high and...

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

I think the key here is the battery storage to smooth out power grid demand - not the solar. I didn’t claim and the article didn’t suggest anything about solar powering the super chargers - not sure where you got that impression. This is the same plan for California as a whole - planning on...

    Sous Vide anyone?

I was going to get the instapot with souvida features next time it is on sale. I assume it helps with water evaporation/insulation.

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

Many of the early adopters were drawn by performance. 40k for a nice corolla isn’t a good deal but when you say it goes 0-60 in 3? Seconds that changes things. It wouldn’t surprise me if consumption varies a lot between users. From some research, the EPA consumption numbers and formula should be...

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

If you really look into what Tesla has done and planned, you can see this won’t be an issue. They can install their battery storage on site so the power grid gets a constant draw and the large power swings are managed with the battery packs. Charging speed does not change the cumulative power...

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

Lots of questions on frequent charging - as I understand it this is not done due to range anxiety but because the car charges fastest mid charge range. A battery can’t charge as fast 0-10% or 90-100% as it can 45-55% Also current max charge rate is 250kW and I believe they are going to go WAY...

    2030 Fire Thread- Who's in?

I happens to update this/last months investments at the peak and I think we’re down about 6% since then based on the S&P index. I think we have had a good expansion run for a number of years. I think volatility will return but with my calculated returns (6% real) I hope to meet the 10 year...

    The Electric Vehicle Thread

Sides from battery day and previous analysts really point to $108/kWh current battery cost for Tesla. I don’t know how accurate that is. They did say iron battery’s would be significantly cheaper.

Who is worrying about ACA going away???

I think the continuous coverage aspect is going to be impossible for a lot of people. With many now working the gig economy and the unaffordablity of colbra - I wonder if people who loose their jobs with benefits will just take a chance without insurance (the average person doesn’t have the...

    The Electric Vehicle Thread

If I can get solar for <9cents/kWh installed at my house, I wonder how cheap it will be to install a solar farm? A 2018 study showed 6 cents per kWh! That technology is improving fast. And battery for two 75kWh days would be maybe 16k per house (and Elon’s roadmap projects a drop in half in 3...

Who is worrying about ACA going away???

I’m worried about the potential changes - pre-existing conditions.. but also worried that with the current system insurance is so complex there doesn’t seems to be an easy to understand way to buy it. (Recent dentist operation is bouncing between health and dental coverage each pointing to the...

Waiting on Tesla Battery Day News Today

To me the biggest factor in internal resistance is to increase charge amps or decrease supercharge times. The lower resistance means less heat. I think the goal is to get ever closer to gasoline fill up times.

We haven’t been inside a store for months.. curbside, instacart, or friends who are going to the store. We are work from home and really enjoying the family time! With all the news about Covid’s ability to hang out in the air after you leave, I am not interested in going inside a high traffic...
