Need advice for son re: air force

As an Army retiree, I would suggest looking at the Space Force. It’s a new organization that I would think is ripe for promotion and training opportunities. My recruiter told me the Army would teach me to fly…… via Ft Benning Airborne school 😂😂😂

Sam's club and Costco worth it for retirees.

I once took my two kids there for lunch; was in and out in 20 minutes and spent less than $5. Love me a $1.50 hotdog with drink and refill.

    Military retirees?

I retired as an E-8 in 2017 with 5 years reserve and 21 active through the Army. Between the pension & VA comp the family and I would have gotten by fine in CA. DW still works as a nurse with the VA and is in no hurry to hang up her hat. After a few months of down time I went from crusty...

    Suze, Dave, Rick, et al.

+1 to all that mentioned that they cater to there target audience It is through reading Dave's Total Money Make Over that I was able to pull my head out of my back side. It gave me a sobering wake up call which in turn led me to this web site. Personally I would never had considered FIRE prior...

NEW Retirement home: how to figure out how much to spend on it?

Great point. I'm not there yet but am fairly certain I would feel the same. I may consider selling and getting into something smaller at a lower cost.

    Anyone own a smoker?

I am partial to mesquite for pork and hickory for brisket. Never tried Salmon yet, but I have brined a turkey breast then smoked it and it was awesome! A cigar and some scotch are surefire ingredients not to miss out on ;)

I wish i had saved early

I was oblivious to money and the power of compounding interest for years. I will definately be sharing this wisdom with my children at a early age!

I just might have to steal that idea of yours; will pick up a meter stick during my next trip to the rod and gun club ;)

    Information gathering

I find it very reassuring making the decision on my terms with the security of my pension and healthcare lined up. The one thing that I do know for sure is that when I make the transition, anything over a forty hour week is out of the question. Plus if things are going well at the time the xtra...

Guess we all have our own definition of ER ;D Seriously though, I am very content with my current career and am weighing the options/ possibilities of a few more years past my 20 year benchmark. A bridge job is most likely in my future; just depends on what the military has in store for me at...

Nearing the End of a Military Career

Thanks for the insight! The JROTC prospect sounds like a great way to stay connected with the military on your own terms. Good luck!

Parr0thead98, Sir, I have enjoyed vicariously sharing you journey through your path to post military retirement. I wish you and your family the very best of luck in this new chapter of your lives! I do have a question that I would like you perspective on. Was VA disability entitlements a...

Hello to all, I was directed to this site from The Military Guide to Financial Independence and Retirement. Really wish that i stumbled upon this book several years back. I am an E- 7 in the US Army with just over 4 years until I hit my 20 year mark. The information that I have come across so...
