Roth Conversion - More Than Just the Tax on the Conversion

I appreciate everyone's responses. A few have pointed out the tax on the RMDs which I did not consider and the tax on death. Wish life, and especially taxes, were easier!

Money does make you happier, new study finds.

If you really dig into the study and results you will see at the end, there are very few people in the highest income category, only 1.2%. So, you could have a problem with results if you happened to have an abnormal amount of 'unhappy' in the highest income (as defined by the study's questions)...

Re-Shop Your Car Insurance Right Now

I have heard from numerous brokers that rates will be going up significantly on auto insurance. Read the following on State Farms' losses for 2021 and 2022, they are staggering, especially for their auto units: https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/national/2023/03/01/709886.htm They will have...

Roth Conversion - More Than Just the Tax on the Conversion

Trying to understand a little more/better the tax consequences of a Roth conversion. The conversion itself is easy, it is all ordinary income in that tax year, and you will pay whatever marginal tax rate that conversion income pushes you into. However, I believe, especially for people who have...

    What do you consider safe?

Really agree with this^ I would try a few different calculators that are freely available and make sure your exact portfolio is set in the calculators.

    ROTH for young workers

I was going to say something along these lines. Max out the Roth if the employer offers that (you still get the match but it goes into the regular 401K) and do a Roth IRA up to the limit if possible. The big unknown of course are where taxes will be in the future, and I certainly use the Roth as...

How do I get over the fear of FIRE?

Totally understand what you are going through and thinking. Like many have said, perfectly normal and expected to feel the way you do. Like all things in life, nothing is 100% risk free. Sometimes you have to just jump in the deep end, and almost all the time, it is a very enjoyable swim. I am...

Do You Go Somewhere Every Day?

I leave the house to walk the dog everyday. But, getting in the car, there could be a few days in-between trips. When that happens, I feel a little weird and odd for not going somewhere other than the walk, like I wasn’t productive. Maybe it is just me…

    2022 Withdrawal Rates?

As a newbie to the forum and I early retired just a few years ago, I would love to understand why (not in a bad way) people have such low withdrawal rates. Mine is also lower because I am afraid of just starting out in retirement at a younger age (and want to make sure my money lasts). Is it the...
