    Top Ten Expenses?

I see a lot of replies where multiple taxes are high in the list. I've been skating on taxes so far (first 6 years of retirement), spending from taxable accounts where I'm only taxed on the gains. Most of the funding of those accounts were from the sale of our last house, so not taxable. Now...

    Uninsured Motorist in Florida

Us locals don't drive at all during the winter. Too many ding dongs from up north on the roads. :coolsmiley::laugh::dance::popcorn::laugh:

Is it weird not have a dishwasher, dryer or garbage disposal?

If there's a dead cat in there, sell the damn thing! :coolsmiley:

    Faxing from home

This is generally true but there are secure apps to do just this. A quick search gave me https://www.enguard.com/ which is HIPPA compliant. I'm sure there are dozens more. The medical industry just needs to get with the program.

    Faxing from home

There are many modern ways to send secure information without reverting to 1960s technology. End to end encryption is commonplace and is more secure than any phone link, which travels over the same wires. Some business categories are just behind the times, like medical, legal, and insurance...

    Faxing from home

My fax machine got stepped by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, AGAIN! Very upset. But I'm in the same boat now.

    Social Security at 70

Well...they did take this money decades ago without compound interest. It's certainly a form of tax already paid, no?

    Moen Leak detector

Modern moisture detectors = good I've got one that connects to Apple Homekit and sends an alert to my phone if it detects something. It also audibly alarms. I love it. Background: just got a new kitchen last year and the cabinets were damn expensive. 6 months later, I noticed that things were...

Social Security - Know What to Expect

It is pretty unbelievable, but not entirely. Have you been to a government website lately? They are generally so bad that I worry for our country's cybersecurity. Surely we have people who can write code better than what's at say, https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/ right? Right?

Living to 100 Calculator This is more actuarial than anecdotes, and in fact, may be better than insurance tables because it is actual questions about your lifestyle. It's also entertaining: https://www.livingto100.com/calculator

Fun math problem that stumps everyone

To average 60mph (a mile a minute) over 2 miles, it will take 2 minutes. Now, you just averaged 30mph over the first mile, which takes 2 minutes. So for the second mile you have to go slightly faster than the speed of light and you'll still be late!

How to answer all the naysayers?

This! I wrote a blog about my experience so anyone interested can read all about it. Most don't though. I like this approach though.

Asking For A Friend - Schwab

Good Friend Your friend has a good friend (you). You are doing the right thing. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be "not dumb", and it's not at all. Let us know how it goes.

Hello! Sorry, I talk a lot

Not to be morbid, but I'm not sure this makes sense given your health history. I'm all for maximizing SS income, but we have to be practical about life expectancy. That said, I wish you a long and healthy life.

Who has not/will NOT do Roth Conversions?

This is the situation I'm in. I can do conversions and continue to do them, but it's not making a huge difference because the ACA subsidies cap the benefits of the Roth conversions.
