Yes, but I was not allowed to take the money that the state took out of my check and put into the state pension system for the past 31 years, so I could put it in my investment portfolio

All I will say... is that it is easy to have opinions when it's not your pension that is going to be affected.

Congrats to you!! I'm sure you are excited, I am looking at a July 31st retirement date, however, I have the Illinois legislature playing with my retirement benefits as I type this. I am hoping they do not act on any pension bills until the fall, but they could pass something before July 1st

I am starting to scale back here, xm satellite radio will run out in May, I need to watch to ensure they don't charge me again... subscription to the local paper will end July 31st and I don't plan on re-subscribing... I have had two salt-water fish aquariums running for the past few years...

I feel your pain, as a state employee, I have had one annual increase in the past 10 years and that was a 1% increase, managers got no increases while our union employees got a raise every year and far surpassed our salaries.

Taking my chances in 2012 myself, Eligible for a pension in August. Work for the state of Illinois and as you may know, Illinois is broke, wanting to change the pension plans for current state employees. I will go talk to retirement next month, but as of now I think I will retire 07/31/2012...
