Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

At the risk of giving away my age range, "ditto" here on your comment. :) My head is spinning reading this particular thread. I'm 'gonna need animal pictures.

    Wimpy Shower Heads/PSA

We have been very happy with the Raindance line of shower heads from Hansgrohe. They save water but actually feel like the old heads. No issues getting enough water or pressure to rinse off. We won't buy any other brand at this point.

home office - large monitor or dual monitors?

Once you use two or more large screens, you'll never go back to one. I'm looking to upgrade to a pair of the large curved wide screens soon.

Methods to Persuade Geese to Leave?

In our area, there is a service that shows up regularly with 1 or 2 border collies. Another uses Shelties. From what I understand you hire them to show up for daily visits over a period of time. This service winds down as the number of geese eventually dwindle and finally move on. Find out if...

is it a good idea to install indoor cam to monitor senior parents?

x2 on the Echo Show. Google "Echo and dementia" to find plenty of videos of people showing how they set it up, and how to use it. It's far from perfect, but it's a good start. Hopefully Amazon continues to develop and expand their free caregiver hub as well.

    Decluttering

Our approach is evolving, but here's where we are the moment. A) Identify 4 categories. Keep, Donate, Sell or Trash. Anything you haven't worn or used in a year (or two) goes out the door. Gather and sort items into the last 3 categories into piles/area of your garage or basement...

How to Strip "Sealed" Concrete Garage Floor for Epoxy Shield

I found the manufacturer, and an article about epoxy on the garage floor. If the floor has a sealer on it, here's where they are recommending a shot blaster. Of course they make the shot blaster. :) Find one for rent, or hire a pro who has one. This might be the best way to go if you don't...

How to Strip "Sealed" Concrete Garage Floor for Epoxy Shield

Can't find out where I saw or heard about it, but I seem to recall some of the Pro's use a machine with ball bearings (like a sand blaster) to prepare the floor. Seems to me it would remove whatever is on the floor, and prep for the epoxy. I prepped my concrete floor with 3 phases using a...

Pay off mortgage or savings acct?

Yes, I continually review everything like the budget/bucket/expense topics you mentioned, and more. Paying off the balance would be a great feeling, but of course we need to ensure we have enough reserves to get us through the unexpected.

Pay off mortgage or savings acct?

This statement kind of sums things up in my mind. While we'd have to sell the home to truly realize the benefit, I believe the value of the home will grow beyond the current 0.6% we can earn in savings for some period of time. This would also provide a "cost avoidance" number to consider...

Pay off mortgage or savings acct?

Thanks for the input. I added some assumptions for clarity, but the insight has been helpful so far. The concept could be flawed, but paying the mortgage off means the end of paying interest, the elimination of debt, and perhaps some peace of mind. While otherwise, the $100k in a...

Pay off mortgage or savings acct?

Assume you have $100,000 to either save (not invest) or pay off a mortgage for the same amount. Paying the mortgage does not necessarily keep you up at night. So you have a couple choices available. 1. Put the money in a 1 yr CD, (currently earning .6 to .8 percent). 2. Pay off an...

Retirement Plan Gets Punched In the Mouth

We maintained normal course and speed, but that does not mean there was no anxiety, doubts or concerns at the time. It just means in the end we did not make any changes and decided it best to stick to our plan.

    Granite countertops and disinfecting

We use a 3 step process which is basically clean, rinse, and dry. 1. Wipe with soap & water or a "stone" cleaner 2. Wipe with clean water 3. Towel dry So in essence we are rinsing off whatever we used to clean the stone. Our 10 yr old granite, sealed 10 years ago, still looks new.
