    IRA to Roth IRA conversions

Thanks for all the responses. This gives me some options on how to handle this. My plan is to make the conversions each year when/if there is a large drop in the stock market. If there is no drop, then i make the conversion in December. If I make the conversions in December then I file the Form...

    IRA to Roth IRA conversions

Looks like future tax rates will be higher than they currently are now. I also don't like the idea of being at the mercy of the RMDs. So, my plan is to convert as much of my traditional IRAs to Roth as i can over the next several years. I know this is a taxable event but I dont want to pay...

    90 days to go!!

I am beginning to think from the response of lots of people, that they really cannot understand the concept of retirement. That's ok, it just seems odd. Time>money I think a lot of people would say; Time=money

    90 days to go!!

Yep my nickname at work is now "Shortimer". I bet I am asked, at least once a day, What am I going to do when I retire? I am amazed as how work can define you - especially by people who only know how to work. I don't even try to answer with what my plans really are - (and it ain't work!)...

Less than 100 work days to go

Down to 100 work days to go before I finish out my work notice! I am pretty excited. The weird thing is that it seems like time has slowed down since I gave notice. Days used to whiz by, but now they seem to have slowed down. It reminds me of waiting for Christmas when I was a kid, or...

    One year to go!

Regarding the expenses, I am working on my spending habits to match the reduced income . I can start the defined benefit at 55:) It is a very good company. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

    One year to go!

Turned in my notice for early retirement next May! Retiring at 55. 30 years at banking. Working on my financial plan. Have a defined benefit plan that pays $80k per year until death, which is about60% of my salary. I keep the same health ins until 65 - about $50 per month now.I am selling big...

    Help for Momma!

I don't know the rules about annulment/divorce, but they have been married several years so divorce will probably be the way they will seperate legally. They had a post - nuptial agreement that supposedly took care of any asset division. Regarding going back with him - people will do what...

    Help for Momma!

I like the idea of avoiding the annuity with the 5% withdrawal rate. She is so conservative that the portion in stocks may make her too nervous, although I will discuss it with her.
