Middle, Upper Middle Class Distinction for Retirees

This thread brings to mind a niggling annoying tendency of mine to wonder exactly how I compare to the population frequenting this site. Indicating some insecurity I realize. Judging by the numerous passive-bragging posts in the "introductions" forum, with $5M+ nesteggs, giant pensions...

    Extended travel without "toys"

OP mentioned his telescope. Well, there are lots of great portable scopes perfect for air travel on the market. I built my own 8" reflector that breaks down and fits in a small suitcase.

Well, I've been privileged to drive her for only 5 years, but she was born in Stuttgart in 1986. Knock on wood she will continue as my daily driver well beyond 15 years! (See pic)

    It's tomorrow ...

My last day after 37 years at the same old place! A little (actually very) anxious. I've been telling people I feel like I am standing at a 2000 foot precipice with a parachute on my back. I have packed and unpacked the chute a dozen times. An expert watched me pack the chute. It should...

OK, fess up, what did Santa bring you ?

I got a really nice bright blue record turntable for playing my father-in-laws classical collection, which we inherited. It goes perfectly with my vintage tube audio system.

Cubicle, oh cubicle, how I miss thee ...

The folks at Bell Labs had actual offices with doors back in the day. And somehow, despite the lack of a noisy "collaborative" workplace they invented the transistor among other things ...

Fidelity Private Client vs Schwab Intelligent Portfolio Service

Another data point; we are very happy with our Fidelity adviser. He works on salary which depends partly on our rating of his services. He's great and I consider him a friend.

    The last .1 percent!!

December, working half time, is the remainder of my corporate working life. Ten more working days, then pull the plug! Anxious and happy at the same time. Nest egg hit 2.99 megabucks. No pension, but big social security, and an insanely appreciating Seattle house. Wish us luck!! :greetings10:
