    ACA vs Medicaid

NJ asks for the previous year’s 1040 if the stated income is irregular and not the typical recurring paycheck. That way they prevent one time ROTH conversions to fly under the radar and become assets as soon as they occur.

    ACA vs Medicaid

I was on Medicaid for 3 years and loved it. In my state there’s estate recovery so whatever subsidies I was receiving, will be fully repaid from my estate when I’m dead. In that sense it was not “free” health insurance (or a free ride for a millionaire) but a loan that covered the services. My...

US DOJ and 16 States Sue Apple for Violating Antitrust Laws, Establishing Monopoly

I feel that a lot of what this suit is about revolves around Apple either doing certain things better or first. Which results in consumers choosing Apple over other options. iTunes and Apple Wallet are good example of Apple being on the vanguard of technology. When they first started selling...

US DOJ and 16 States Sue Apple for Violating Antitrust Laws, Establishing Monopoly

DOJ will not only have to prove that Apple illegaly limited competition but also that consumers would be happier if changes were forced on the company. I’m not sure this will be particularly easy: you can switch to another phone if you like, it’s not as hard as DOJ alleges. I’ve gone through...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

The total provider's charge is over 8k - my responsibility is 3k or so. I don't think it's an outrageous amount - I went to US based hospital ER, I'm not delusional. Having said that - I just don't think the care offered made any sense. Lesson learned.

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

"No" to all your questions (diabetes, cancers, gastro issues, family history, fever and all that). The hospital I attended is part of a larger medical center and they have my medical history documented in their system. I turned 60 last September and the abscess was right smack in the center of...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

Seeking medical help was clearly my choice but as you yourself wrote: "ER's purpose to diagnose the patient's condition". It's not that my doctor was cautious - she was incompetent. Imagine you go to an ER with an acute lower back pain and end up with a spine surgery when a cortisone shot an a...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

So it seems. I've only received several "explanation of benefits" aka This Is Not A Bill letters from the insurance. One the hospital sends the actual invoice I will look into disputing this whole ordeal.

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

Thank you. You're one of the several medical professionals that told me the same thing. I did try to avoid that scan altogether - and then asked if ultrasound could do the job if imaging was necessary - but they said they needed to find out "how deep" the abscess reached and it sounded plausible...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

Lesson learned. Interestingly there was absolutely nobody else at the admission room and maybe two more people inside. On the side note, my last ER visit was in Chiang Mai in Thailand. I fractured my toe. That cost me $70. And my latest emergency dental visit in Buenos Aires was $12 + $11.50...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

I obviously did spend time on internet trying to figure out what was going on but the information was swinging between: “use warm compress and it’ll go away” to “it can destroy you and your life forever, run to ER right now!”. I did the first, it didn’t help so I panicked and did the second. I’m...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

That's exactly what I'm asking: were they trying to fleece me? Because if the message they were sending was, "you're an idiot and and we'd like to show you how expensive not using Google for you medical treatment is" then I think I got it and I would like to send a message to them by filing the...

For those who had skin abscess - was CT involved in diagnosing?

I recently developed a quarter sized abscess right in the middle of my buttock. I went to ER and they insisted on doing abdomina body cat scan with contrast. I balked at first and asked about ultrasound but they insisted on the CT. I obviously have no clue what is and what is not necessary...

What is the best way to pay estimated Federal Taxes in Retirement?

I get a new credit card every time tax is due - with one payment I hit the bonus that I later use to book a business flight somewhere. Yes, there’s an about 1.8% surcharge but it works for me.

How To Find Low Cost Lab For Annual Blood Work?

I travel a ton so I mostly do my bloodwork outside of US. In most countries for a $100-150 you can do every test imaginable.
