How often do strangers ask you for money?

I said that once and the asker replied with "That's OK, there is an ATM around the corner where you can get some cash." Now it is just a firm "No".

    So what am I missing?

I looked A LOT at this option a few months ago. There are 3 more points that made me decide against it in my case: 1) I would also pay tax on the $6,100 (although less in my case) earnings which increases the net cost. 2) The loan can be called at any time for any reason - not just a drop in...

    SS at 62 with minors

Thanks wolf for the confirmation. I plan on meeting with SS early next year but it is always nice to know what the answers should be before you get them. And our youngest child has Down Syndrome and so has a lifetime disability as far as SS is concerned.

    SS at 62 with minors

Jim, Thanks. That was the pub I was basing my question from. It looks pretty clear to me and openss.com backs up my thoughts.

    SS at 62 with minors

Oldtimer - thanks for the note about the checkbox. I had looked at that calculator a few times but never noticed the box to get more options to show. My understanding of who in the family can claim and when is the optimum time matches that site. My benefit at 62 is very close to what I had...

    SS at 62 with minors

Sorry about the confusion. I am not disabled, my 9 year old is (and will be 12 when I turn 62). I should have left their disability out of the narrative. My basic question is: Does each child get 1/2 of my PIA when I start collecting benefits at 62?

    SS at 62 with minors

Children will be 14 and 12 when I turn 62. (They are 11 and 9 now. The 9 year old is permanently disabled but I don't believe that is relevant until they turn 18). I modeled monthly flow (me + 2 kids at 62, 1 dropping off when they turn 18, second dropping off at 18 but wife coming on the...

    SS at 62 with minors

My SS full retirement age is 67. My PIA is 3,788. At age 62 I will have 2 children under 18 (1 permanently disabled but I don't think that matters for this question). My max family benefit calculates out to 6,463. If I take benefits at 62 my monthly should be 2640. My wife is 6 years younger...

    Retired at 59.49 years old

I had semi-retired about 10 years ago to work part time in my own engineering company. After a few years of dealing with all the parts of a business I didn't enjoy (looking at you accounts receivable) I went back full time to the company I left after it had gone through a buyout and reorg...

    Meh at hitting a million

Like scrabbler, we went over, then under, then back over a million in the last few years. We think that makes us multi-millionaires.

How did You Pick the Final Date?

I had wanted to retire before I was 50 years old - a completely arbitrary desire. I turned in my notice with my last day at 49.98 years old with FIRECALC giving us 95% success rate at our expenses as tracked for 2 years. A time deadline rather than a money deadline gave us a lot more...

How to file 2 1095-A forms on one tax return

We had 3 1095s last year and the downloaded TaxAct handled it just fine.

    ACA Strategies...

This is what happened to us. Our options are to pay the full ticket for the kids to have private insurance, raise our MAGI by 2.5X, or have the kids on CHIP. After a lot of thought, we went with the kids on CHIP and earmark the money that would be going into private insurance to cash pay for...

What is the real FPL number?

While doing the first pass of our 2015 taxes to see what I need to do for the rest of this year, I saw an interesting item. All government websites, Medicaid included, show 2014 Federal poverty levels different than IRS Form 8962. The 2015 draft 8962 is also different from other sources...
