    RIP Jimmy Buffett

I remember attending a Jimmy Buffet concert in Hammond, Louisiana back in the mid-seventies. The opening band was playing and there were a lot of people dancing just in front of the stage. At one point, the crowd started backing up, kind of forming a circle around one young couple who were...

What We’re Smoking (or Grilling, or Curing)!

Planning on sous viding a pork belly today for 8 or 9 hours. Will refrigerate overnight and then finish off in the smoker tomorrow for pork belly burnt ends just in time for the Super Bowl.

    Dual pane "insulated glass" windows?

I would seriously consider replacing all of the windows in the house. The house is over 20 years old and five have already lost their seal. Others will likely begin to fail in the next few years. A few years ago, we had the same problem in our 1993 house. Seven or eight of our aluminum...

What We’re Smoking (or Grilling, or Curing)!

Found some beef chuck ribs in my freezer the other day. Gave them a 45 hour sous vide bath and then iced the bags for about 30 minutes. They’ve been on the smoker now for close to two hours to finish them, and I’m about to pull them off. Hope they turn out good.

    What's your recent concert?

Good to hear that you enjoyed the concert. We’ve got tics to see him in Sugar Land, TX on Aug. 27. Looking forward to it.

    New Coffeemaker

I have a Brew Express machine that is at least 10 years old, maybe 12 or 13. It is hard piped to my reverse osmosis system, so all I have to do is add coffee grounds. Makes great coffee. I used to only use it two days a week (weekends) when I was working, but it’s been getting used seven days...

Maximum miles and time frame for road trips?

Most of our road trips now are in our 38’ motorhome towing our Jeep Wrangler behind us. While it’s not that difficult to drive, it does take more out of you than just driving a car. So, I rarely drive more than 250 miles per day, about 4 to 5 hours per day. But hey, we’re retired. I’m not in...

Guys who have tried dying their hair and/or beard, would you reccomend it?

This was me two years ago, but it was my wife cutting my hair on the patio, not me. I’ve gotten over the Covid fear now and visit the girls at the Sports Clip place every three weeks to get shorn.

Guys who have tried dying their hair and/or beard, would you reccomend it?

During my working years, I used to tell my wife I was gonna grow a pony tail when I retired. Well, I’m retired now and not nearly enough hair left to grow a pony tail. So, when it gets to be about 3/4” long, I go get it buzzed back. What’s left is pretty much all white and the thought of...

    Rezum Treatment.

I (69 years old) have been on doxazosin for several years for urinary problems, but my issues continue to gradually worsen. PCP just switched me to tamsulosin and finasteride. Waiting to see if these help. He mentioned the UroLift procedure as a possible surgical option if medication is...

    Bathroom Renovation - Contractor Screwup

We totally remodeled all four of our bathrooms about a year ago. Two baths had a diverter valve controlling the flow between the fixed overhead shower and a secondary handheld shower. The plumber installed both diverter valves incorrectly and it wasn’t discovered until the tile guys had...

Meet Nerdle; Wordle for Geeks (No spoilers here either!)

Meet Nerdle; Wordle for Geeks I got it in four moves. Seemed pretty random at first, but once I got two moves in, things started to make sense. Fun! I’ll try again tomorrow

    Dexa Scan: Osteoporosis

My PCP does a lot of detailed labs on me every year and he has me on quite a few supplements, including Vit D, but not calcium. My PCP and endocrinologist both think that maintaining a normal testosterone level will eventually arrest the bone density loss.

    Dexa Scan: Osteoporosis

Seems like most of the osteoporosis sufferers here are female. I’m male in my late 60’s and was diagnosed with osteopenia (bordering on osteoporosis) a few years ago. My doc ordered a bone density test after I flunked my testosterone test, which revealed a severe testosterone deficiency...

What is your favourite "Regular" Sipping Liquor - (Neat No Mixers Except Perhaps Ice)

For the last forty years or so, my favorite sipping whisky has been Maker’s Mark. Since retiring, I usually have a small glass (neat) before going to bed. No reason to stop now.
