Not as chilled as the rest of you - need advice

My two cents - you've already (based on your initial post), pushed off the idea of retirement from JAN 2017 to a later date - when your DH is already miserable. Why? You can do that forever (and have been for years by your own admission) - keep pushing retirement off. I'd rather deal with the...

Rebalancing Retirement Funds - Help Wanted!

Hi everyone – It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forums, and am looking for some advice. I have several questions, but right now I’m concentrating on the 50 meter target. I’m a year out from military retirement – I’ll go on terminal leave in 8 months. I’ve been on autopilot with my...

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

These mortgages are rentals though, so Dave wouldn't count them as a home mortgage. The "home" is fully paid for, so really I only have debt. I have enough cash, without the rental income to pay the mortgages, right now, so I hadn't been too focused on 3-6 months, but you are right and I'll...

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

Chases - I will check into them. I've heard about the Wellington fund specifically on these boards before. I am sure I'll eventually do something to bring in more money. I'd like to actually have a very small farm and do something with that, but that will very much depend on how much I like...

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

Thanks - I am pretty risk averse too - I'll probably end up choosing a mutual fund for most of it! Thanks again - very helpful!

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

Thanks to you both for your advice. I have thought about this over and over and had not thought about it that way. Having more cash would give me generally more options anyway.... Would you put the savings for house in a cash account or an investment account? We're only talking about 3 1/2 years...

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

The rents are $2350 combined. The house I'll live in after retirement brings in $550.

    Retirement Nearing - Input wanted!

Could use your advice – I am finally within site of retirement! At least military retirement anyway. I’ll lay out my situation, and will welcome your thoughts. Currently at 2 ½ years away from retirement. Expected retirement pay will be around $3550. I currently live on around half my income...

Leaving broker for Vanguard- need advice

Transfer I agree. I just recently did this, transferring assets from Ameriprise. It was really very easy. Only a couple of assets did not transfer, so I hold them now myself. All I had to do was list the accounts, and Vanguard did all the work. It's probably the single greatest cost saving...

    Stop TSP, Start Roth?

Also keep in mind...If you add money to your TSP while deployed- not only is that money not taxed going into the TSP, but it's not taxed when you take it out either - so you in effect are contributing to a traditional/roth IRA (get the best of both worlds).

    Pet Friendly - Hilton Head

I am looking to go on the weekends - I just like the beaches there. I guess I can always go to Tybee for a day trip, but there are always logistical issues like being all "sandy" and then wanting to go somewhere else. We will work it out. Bestwife - I had thought about giving your idea a...

    Pet Friendly - Hilton Head

Hey all - I am looking for a hotel/condo/townhouse to visit frequently in Hilton Head Island with my pet. (Small dog/puppy) I've been doing some internet searching, but it seems like most locations that accept pets are not close to the beach or have huge nonrefundable charges (Like $100). I'm...

    Buying home from parent

Hi all I will probably be buying my grandmother's home from my dad later this year. The assessed value is $110,000 he wants to sell it to me for $80,000. I want to make sure we're both doing this on the up and up. I think from my end, there will be nothing to do except for sign the...

Caught Capital One's hand in my pocket

I think that even if I paid my bill late, got charged a late fee, and then more interest, I would continue to use my card. I don't pay my bill late, and I always pay in full, but I was recently looking at my rewards activity, and have gotten something like $1000 back in rewards over the past few...
