Is Change Healthcare Data breach a scam?

We received a letter from Change healthcare (CHC) telling us there was major data breach. All our personal information including SSN and driver's license have been taken by the bad guys. It happens that I have been getting calls from a phone company saying I applied for a phone number. And...

Who do you hire to do tax planning?

The question is balancing optimal Roth conversation amount and lowest ACA cost. Is there a software we could purchase to do this? Or we need to get professional help. If we do, who do you call? I did a quick google search and could not find CPA with a retirement tax planning as a major...

    Income Vs growth investment

To me, not losing what we have had is the #1 goal. And the portfolio could generate cash flow to fund living expenses is the icing on the cake. The growth would be nice but high growth = high risk. With that thinking, I have actually shifted a significant portion to CDs, high yield money...

    Income Vs growth investment

Since early 2010s, I have been heavily investing in the income generating stocks and EFTs. Two of the better performance ones are ABBV and MO. With dividends reinvested, they are all around 450% ROI. My portfolio is generating at least $80k a year on dividends and interests. DW, on the...

High Net Worth - Is Your Asset Allocation Acceptable?

Well, Taxable and Roth accounts have mostly stocks. The non-taxable are CD, annuity, high yield money market, and basic checking & savings. The taxable are from my 401Ks. In earlier years, we could only afford to save in 401K. Later on in my career, we probably save more after tax $ than...

The current business situation is not very good. The company is cutting costs and putting pressure on each of us to generate more revenues. It is not fun any more. One question I keep asking in my head: how do you know you have enough to pull the trigger? Saw so many youtubers claim to be ok...

High Net Worth - Is Your Asset Allocation Acceptable?

we are 60% taxable, 10% Roth, and 30% non-taxable. I am in the camp that once you won the game, keep what we have is more important than seeking higher gains. So we are 50% cash and 5% bonds and 45% stocks. Of course, the cash are in CD and high yield money market earning >5%.

AC not working 100%. Should I call our HVAC foks?

I would measure the temperature at different spots of the house. Ours is a medium size house with about 3500 sq Ft. the downstairs is always good. There is one area the far away from the A/C blower upstairs will be 4 degrees higher than the set point. the rest of upstairs are fine.

Domestic first class worth the $?

We recently did a 3+ hour domestic flight and booked first class tickets. The basic fare would be about $250 and the first class costed about $750 each. The pluses are that you get on first and have plenty space for your carry-on. Nice in flight hot meals and extra leg room. On the other...

Too many CDs & MM? How much is enough

Our Cd, high yield money market and index linked annuities are about 1.2 million. Yes, we are in the preservation mode instead of seeking high growth. Keep working for another 4 ~ 5 years to make sure we have enough to retire comfortably.

Is it a sin for wanting to own a nice car?

Good news on this front. I am getting a company car. Better news is that an executive is relocating and I will get the car at several level higher than my pay grade. Not exactly the car I wanted but it will do since it costs me nothing.

Does everyone but me do the 30k, 60k, etc car maint?

Our car will alert us about the scheduled maintenance and we follow that most of the time. The next item is a spark plus replacement and the quote is $600 to $900 for 6 plugs. I am thinking of doing that myself. The plug is only at about $20 each on Amazon.

80% hit by the airport "random selection"

Again, we are talking about different thing here. When one passes the metal detector at the airport, the detector will make one sound to alert there is metal on the person. The other one special sound means "random selection". I don't think the random selection is triggered by a TSA person...

80% hit by the airport "random selection"

When I said "randomly selected", I meant the metal detector beeps. Even so I am 100% sure I don't have any metal on me. The detector would beep and the TSA person will said I was "randomly selected". I will have to pass the X-ray machine or have my hand swiped. If it happens once in a...
