    Retirement Guilt

Being a woman, it's easier to get around this. I think what is more telling is my simple lifestyle. I didn't really change anything about it other than I don't work 9-5. Perhaps after the shock wears off with your friends and they don't really see a difference in who you are it will just becomes...

    Doctor visit or Deposition?

Perhaps if the problem is that other family members are unable to attend the doctor appointment and miss out what was said then maybe a phone consultation between the doctor and family member could be arranged. If patient confidentialty is an issue then permission to discuss matters before hand...

Recommend Wellesley to parents: good advice?

There was a posting over at M* that discussed this somewhat. I would be appreciative if anyone here would care to read it and give their opinion. Thanks. http://tinyurl.com/j7vu2

    Vanguard- Wellsely Fund

CFB, When you owned this fund, did you reinvest the capital gains? Why or why not? Thanks.

    Vanguard- Wellsely Fund

"1. The 4.53% from Wellesley is probably taxed at the qualified dividend tax rate while the savings account can be considered taxed at your marginal income tax rate." For the tax year 2005 only 28.43% was qualified. The remaining was taxed at the marginal rate. This fund holds around 70% bonds...

    Vanguard- Wellsely Fund

Cube-rat I'll take a stab at this. Wellesley, in addition to providing current income, the fund seeks growth of long-term income, as well as moderate long-term capital appreciation. Cash or CD's, because there is no equity position, cannot have any capital appreciation. Also, I think the...

    forced sale of inherited property

MasterBlaster, A former brother is one whose actions are so despicable that they no longer have the privilege of being considered family. Harsh, I know but that's how I feel. Technically we shared the same parents but that's where the relationship ends.

    forced sale of inherited property

I was in a similar situation. I was co-owner of my father's condo in FL with my (former) brother. He didn't want to sell so I was forced to use an attorney. The attorney told me that he would petition the court to force my (former) brother to sell the condo. I can't remember the exact term but...

SF Gay Pride Parade, anybody going

OAP, I ended up camped out in the 400 block of Market instead. I was sitting comfortably on a ledge until I noticed it overlooked the subway enterance. Then it scared the c*** out of me. Afterwards we continued on to the civic center where I bought a years worth of pretty-smelling shower soap.

SF Gay Pride Parade, anybody going

The parade was a lot of fun. I thought the "dykes on bikes" looked like they were having the most fun second to the cloggers. I can't believe anyone would admit to being a "clogger". No offense. I tried to take some pictures but found out after a few shots that my batteries were dead. Bummer...

I'll be there, too, somewhere at the start of the parade (by the Ferry building). Wearing all white with a red Nike backpack.

    What is a (good) manager?

This reminds me of the movie "Glengarry Glen Ross where Alec Baldwin says to his sales staff "First place is a Cadillac. Second place is a set of steak knives. Third place...is the door!" Pretty good motivation.

    Stay at home dads

I think you just ran into some sites where "misery loves company". Personally I wouldn't be interested in a site with a bunch of negativity. I've tried, for example, to read some other financial sites where it is all gloom and doom. Not my idea of a good time.

As God is my witness, I will never be in

OAP, Looking at your stocks and funds you seem to be represented in most, if not all, asset classes. But what % do you hold? In other words, what % in equities, bonds, cash? When I organize my funds this way then I can get a better sense of lining up my risk tolerance to my exposure to the...
