Your top 3 holdings by weight

My portfolio is mostly individual stocks, and I have only recently (in the past couple of years) been building some ETF/mutual fund positions. Although always a moving target, the 3 largest holdings by weight currently are: AAPL - 7.9% SWVXX - 4.8% CMI - 3.3%

    Repairing a wooden cutting board.

I also like less "busy" cutting boards, but I posted the link because of the artistry and the execution. My DD purchased one of these for my DH (her dad) for Fathers' Day a couple of years ago, and it was less than $400 at the time, and it is beautiful and super functional. Sorry to hijack...

    Repairing a wooden cutting board.

This is non-responsive to the repair question, but we have a local woodworker/artisan (and it is art!) who creates the most beautiful cutting boards. Oh, my. Check it out: Mez Woodworks – Unique End Grain Cutting Boards, Individually Designed and Handcrafted

    Cranberries

Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without cranberries. I've never bought it in a can, as far as I recall, but make it from fresh berries. The cranberry sauce is always one of my assignments if either of my children are hosting the feast and we are included. I also throw a handful of fresh...

Do we look as old as them?

I see my mom's body when I look in the mirror but not her face. Pretty sure I don't like it. I'd be OK seeing her face but not her body. Ha!

Local grocery store phasing out shopping baskets - whaaaat?

Honestly, if one checks out through the self-check line at WinCo, everyone's use of full-size carts makes maneuvering through the self-check lines really difficult

Local grocery store phasing out shopping baskets - whaaaat?

My primary grocery store, WinCo, only has only full-sized grocery carts. I would love to have access to either a hand basket or a small cart. Pretty sure that isn't going to happen since they did away with their hand baskets earlier this year, and WinCo has never had small grocery carts.

    Let’s talk National Parks

Internationally, this past summer, I walked across England which means that I visited UK National Parks, which were really picturesque and fabulous: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. My DH did not accompany me to the...

    Let’s talk National Parks

I don't have experience with more than 20 national parks, although when my DH turned 62, his birthday present from me was a senior national park pass. He is still working, so we haven't had an opportunity to go. But my daughter and I did a month-long national park tour in 2019, right before...

Local grocery store phasing out shopping baskets - whaaaat?

I shop at our local WinCo, and they no longer offer hand baskets, since about 3-4 months ago. It's maybe been longer but not much. They also have put some sort of monitoring system on their grocery carts in an effort to keep them from getting stolen. The monitor stops the cart from rolling...

    Tattoos, anyone?

DH graduated from an inner-city high school in a large city in 1978. After having looked at his yearbook from 1978, I required our children to look at it and understand that what was cool in 1978 totally wasn't cool at the time (10-15 years ago), but tattoos are forever. Neither of our...

    Social Security (House) Proposal

Why do you describe the ex-spouse survivor qualifications as "very narrow?" They are not. If a subsequent marriage that occurred before age 60 ends in divorce, an ex-spouse (of the deceased spouse, in our example above) is certainly entitled to survivor benefits on account of an ex-spouse...

    Social Security (House) Proposal

But, let's say you were married four times during your 40 years of paying into social security, and each marriage was for 10 years and 1 day. Upon your death, you potentially have 4 ex-spouses (or maybe three exes plus one current spouse, if currently married) entitled to the entire amount of...

    Luggage

Travelpro Maxlite 5 Rollaboard. I bought the domestic-sized carry-on for our Europe trip last fall and paid around $150. It is super lightweight (5.4 lbs) but holds 52L of items. I checked it on a few short haul flights where the luggage guys aren't careful, and it held up really well. The...

Best CD, MM Rates & Bank Special Deals Thread 2023 - Please post updates here

I have recently moved cash out of my Schwab MMA (SWVXX) to Synchrony CDs, where I already had a HYSA. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a 14-month for 5.65 APY, and then more recently bought a 9-month (5.5 APY) and an 18-month (5.25 APY). They are non-callable and pay monthly. Rates have...

Paying Taxes in Retirement With Tax Withholding Distributions

If you call Fido's customer service number, the pleasant young rep who answers can set your withholding to whatever you want. I moved my retirement accounts to Fidelity this year, so I'm a novice at their system. Yesterday, I was trying to do 100% withholding from my TIRA on the Fidelity...

Open both Fidelity and Charles Schwab?

My HSA account (the investment portion), was just moved in September from TD Ameritrade to Schwab. I don't know if someone could currently open an HSA directly with Schwab, but my (now) Schwab investment account is connected through HSA Bank, my HSA administrator through my retiree health...

Poll: Which Brokerage(s) do you use? Switching? See 1st Post for Poll Details.

The majority of my (retirement) "stash" is newly at Fidelity (as of June), but formerly at TD Ameritrade. Fidelity has had its quirks, but I really like it! My husband's "stash," as well as our taxable brokerage account, is at Schwab. I also like Schwab, but may eventually move to Fidelity...
