Vanguard Digital Advisor email - 23% of clients unsatisfied, but join us anyway!

I have had my share of issues with Vanguard. I voted with my feet and transferred accounts to Fido. Then, I systematically began selling VG funds and moving those $ to other similar mutual funds / etfs from other suppliers. Mostly in retirement accounts to avoid capturing gains and paying the...

    inheriting money instead of gifting

Maybe consider a "reverse inheritance". Take some of your wealth and make sure your mom has enough to live comfortably. Answer your own prayer and teach your boys something in the process.

How Will Federal Income Taxes Change Over The Next 20 Years?

In my current plan I use 24.8% income tax (fed). I live in a no income tax state. Was pretty close to that in 2014, but lower in following years. I have never adjusted my assumed future tax rate, but this thread has me thinking maybe I should consider reducing future tax rate estimates to be...

I think you mean high earners, not necessarily high spenders.

Should we save paper copies of outdated financial statements or keep electronically?

I'm 100% electronic copies. I got rid of all the old paper copies when I moved in 2020. Burned most of the documents because shredding would have taken too long.

Discussing finance with family and friends seems fruitless

I actually have a very close friend and we discuss investments, risks, returns, withdrawal strategies, etc. He's got an idea what I have, and I have an idea what he has. But neither knows for sure. It's nice to have a real person to discuss topics with. My brothers on the other hand, no...

    Warm clothes advice.

Get yourself a merino wool under layer. Long sleeve. And some merino wool socks. I gave up cotton years ago. I found it trapped moisture and created a cold feeling. I usually wear a light fleece overlay. You can get these in a variety of weights (light, medium, heavy). Try a couple and...

What Are The Must See Cities in Europe?

London, Paris and Amsterdam. London (with a day trip to Oxford as a possibility), Paris (with a side trip to Reims, in the champagne region, about an hour from Paris), Amsterdam (with a day trip to the Keukenhof if traveling in the spring). Leidien, outside of Amsterdam, has a wonderful...

Thoughts on allocation/fund selection for 25 year old son

I would think the Roth is the way to invest at his stage. Pay 12% now, and all growth is not taxed. What am I missing?

How to set and maintain a budget

I set my retirement budget based on my spending for the several years before I retired. Essentially, my budget in retirement is equal to my spending pre-retirement. No surprises. Absolute $ in any given category will shift, but my focus is on the bottom line. It gets reviewed quarterly...

529 Asset Allocation as College Approaches

I'd leave the money invested in equities. I did that with my kids and it worked out fine. Kids were in college from 2016 - now. I have about 4 more years of college bills, and I am staying fully invested in equities. YMMV

Do you still have life insurance? What age did you stop?

I had term on me and DW when kids were in school. Dropped coverage about 5 yrs ago. If you are FI, I don't see the need. Paying for insurance now so that heirs don't pay income/inheritance/estate tax later doesn't make sense to me.

    Safety of South American cities

Rio is a beautiful city and you should experience it. But, be very careful in Rio. I have not been in 10 years, but it was very dicey back then. So many people, so many motorcycles and scooters, easy to grab something from you then run to the beach and blend in. I would recommend a guide or...

Talk me through being relegated at work

Been there, done that. Got the severance, but no T-shirt. OP - you have not checked your ego at the door yet. Your goal should be to assist, help, mentor, guide, etc. your new boss and do whatever it takes to get him promoted. Easy to say, hard to do. I got this advice and did not follow...

You tried to do the right thing, and I applaud you for that. I think you fell into a trap I often find myself in......overthinking. I am a big supporter of equal, however, in some cases the "juice ain't worth the squeeze". This may be one of them. Equal amounts to each of 9 GC has only one...
