Have to start thinking about cataract surgery

I guess it has been 3 years since I had my cataract surgery. I had a little bit of astigmatism and my lens does correct for that. I had had prior LASIK which meant that some of the lens that would completely eliminate a need for glasses were not ideal for me. Those lens are great but they...

Do you feel obligated to respond?

Absolutely, no. All unknown calls go straight to voicemail. If they leave a message I do check it. If it is a call from someone in my contacts then I will usually answer it but not always depending on who it is. Texts I do usually see right away but don't feel I have to answer right away...

People that have moved do you really feel at home

This is such an interesting question. We moved from Texas to Delaware a year and a half ago. Does it feel like home? I think mostly but not entirely. I had lived in Texas my entire life. I grew up in the DFW area but lived most of my adult life in Houston. Then moved back to the DFW area...

Do you need the second car in retirement?

We had 2 cars for several years. Early on we lived fairly far from any shopping and we had more separate errands and stuff we needed to run. We later moved so that we were very close to everything so if one of us ran an errand that person was usually back pretty quickly. When Covid had gone...

Should we save paper copies of outdated financial statements or keep electronically?

I scan in all receipts and most financial documents. Unless it is something I need to keep the original of (very few things) I discard originals. Most financial statements I don't keep at all if I can download them. Occasionally I might keep one but I have little need for most of them.

1 Year in Delaware (moved from Texas)

Everyone tells me to go to Longwood and it is on my list. Not too far away. We actually thought about going to Gettysburg in July when we were going to go on a trip but decided to wait until it wasn't so hot. We may go next month. DH also wants to go to Harpers Ferry which is not too far...

1 Year in Delaware (moved from Texas)

You should visit Delaware in the summer. I was laughing when people were freaking out here when a few days it went into the low 90s. That is definitely hot and it isn't when I would go for an outdoor walk. But, honestly, coming from Texas is not anything remarkable. I was talking to a friend...

1 Year in Delaware (moved from Texas)

I will say that I didn't pay a lot of attention to the no sales tax thing before I moved here...but it has been wonderful. I see lots of PA, Md and NJ plates in the shopping centers.

    Breast cancer

I imagine it wasn't a mistake. Your PCP may have thought that it was likely a few weeks ago but may not have had the info to make that determination at that time. Often to determine if cancer is stage 4 they use imaging studies, such as CT scans, or bone scans or PET scans. He may not have...

    Looking for a Non-Apple Smart Watch/Fitness Tracker

I have a Garmin Venu3. It is above your budget but I like it a lot. I also have an Apple Watch that I find inferior for fitness. I use it for other things. Previously I had a Fitbit and they really don't last long and Google is cutting their features right and left. I can't recommend the...

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

I have a calcium score of over 600 and my LDL goal is under 50. Taking a low dose statin is the way to go. If it doesn't get you there and you just need a little more to get under 50, adding ezetemibe works better than doubling the statin. 20 mg of rosuvastatin got my LDL to 59. Doubling it...

    High calcium score and angiogram

Agree about the cardiologist. When I got my over 600 CAC, my cardiologist said that sometimes people don't understand that with a calcium score getting under 100 is no longer good enough. Unfortunately some PCPs are not very up to date. I recently was reading the research on how reducing...

Cramps or spasms of the hands/fingers and feet.

This could be statin related but may not be. Talk to doctor to make sure it isn't something else. If it is a statin they will usually try different ones as sometimes a person gets a side effect with one but not another. I get mild foot cramps with atorvastatin but nothing with rosuvastatin...

    High calcium score and angiogram

Please talk to your doctor, preferably a cardiologist. A positive calcium score is a marker of atherosclerosis. While a score of 207 is not as bad as mine (over 600) it is enough to put you pretty firmly in the group of people with atherosclerosis. Usually with a calcium score as high as...

Advice / Info on Where to retire in the US

So many factors that affect this that you haven't mentioned (I am sure you have thought of most of or all of them). We moved from Texas to Delaware last year. We considered strongly Las Vegas. So I just want to mention a few factors Weather - There is a lot of difference between a snowy...

1 Year in Delaware (moved from Texas)

So one day we wanted to have lunch at BJ's and the closest one to us in Delaware is in Lancaster. So the map said it was about an hour drive straight (so to speak -- winding roads) to the restaurant. Fine. However -- that Google map time completely ignores the buggies! There were so many...

1 Year in Delaware (moved from Texas)

So last year I posted about moving from Texas to Delaware Moving to Delaware? We arrived in Delaware June 25 of last year so we have gone through a full year. Moving here was a huge leap for us. We knew no one in Delaware. We had never been to Delaware except maybe driving through on I-95...

    High calcium score and angiogram

Dash man - Good look on the recovery and glad you were getting monitored over the years. I haven't posted on this thread for awhile. it is now a little over a year since I had my angiogram following my 600+ calcium score (I did not need stents although I had 4 blockages). I've been on a...

I've got Covid.... The thread for your covid experiences

Recently had Covid for the first time. DH and I both got it at the same time. I either got from him or our daughter. She didn't feel well for a day or so and doesn't know it was Covid but could me. I took the Paxlovid. I had the bitter taste (DH didn't). I did some research and found that...

Considering a retirement move out of town/state

responding to moving to be closer to family... I guess this is a personal choice but I don't see it that way. I think that wanting to live somewhere else for other reasons is perfectly valid. We moved to a state that we knew no one. Our daughter did follow us here which has been nice. But...

    UHC/AARP Medigap Plans

I have AARP Medigap. So here is the way it works. You find a gym that accepts Renew Active and go in and sign up. They will tell you what you get for that. I recently joined a gym that has 3 tiers of membership. Renew Active got me the midrange tier which was the one I would have selected...

    My Recent Calcium CT Scan

You absolutely want to take a statin (or other lipid lowering medication if you are intolerant). There are several reasons for this. I calcium score of 164 is not good. A high calcium score is a sign of atherosclerosis. Heart disease needs to be treated. 1. If you have calcified plaque...

Considering a retirement move out of town/state

Were a number of years retired when we moved from Texas to Delaware last year. I had lived in Texas my whole life. DH's dad had been in the Navy so he had lived lots of places (none in the north) as a child but had lived in Texas as an adult. When we moved here we knew no one. We spent a lot...
