Turbotax problem tonite: no option to buy an I bond with tax refund

Thanks very much. I wasn't aware of this change & neither (apparently) is Turbotax support. Wish I'd known this before withholding the extra $5K & before spending hours on the phone with TT.

Turbotax problem tonite: no option to buy an I bond with tax refund

Has anyone else had a problem this year with buying an I bond with a tax refund on Turbotax? I've done this every year for a while, but don't see that option now. The only specified options are direct deposit, a paper check, or splitting the deposit among up to 3 banks. I called twice this...

    How to send a PM

I haven't done this since the new format. I think I used to see that option when clicking on a member's name but now that doesn't seem to work. Or is "Start conversation" the same as a PM?

    Cataract surgery cost

Hi Geezer -- Glad to give an update after my surgery last March. I'm very happy with my experience, both the process & the results. I chose one of the "Cadillac doctors" (highly recommended by a friend who does everything first-class, but since the doctor doesn't take my secondary coverage the...

Thank you gift for cleaning ladies ... amount?

When I tip my coop building staff, I keep in mind that the annual tip is partly for future work. In your case, since you're happy with their work & want to keep them, be generous.

    Eagle nest cams

The nest views, high in the trees, with backgrounds of forests & mountains look so peaceful, but I'm surprised that with the volume turned on they are so noisy -- the wind can be very loud!

    Cataract Surgery Options

I had cataract surgery on one eye 2 months ago & will likely have it for the other eye in a year or 2, (don't need it yet). I got a toric lens (a curved lens) for $1,750, which was needed for astigmatism. I didn't wear glasses before surgery (one eye was deteriorating, but the other eye was...

Scary good - Google Lens - try it!

I just found it on Google on my computer: went to Images, then clicked on the camera icon. It gives you the option of uploading a photo or dragging it from your computer.

Scary good - Google Lens - try it!

Just tried it now & it is pretty nifty. It quickly identified photos of a basil plant, Mark Twain's house, & Mohonk Mountain Lodge. It would be very good with travel photos if you have no idea what the place or building is. On the other hand, I tried it with photos of several autographed...

    Free COVID tests available again....

My local state legislator, whose office is nearby, has free test kits available once a week. The state obtained them from the federal supply. You might try looking into something like that.

$15 to drive into new york city

FACT: 32 total murders in subway trains & stations since January 2020. Not to minimize that, but don't throw out numbers that are wildly inaccurate. I take the subway everywhere (with 3.2 million others every day) & have never had problems.

$15 to drive into new york city

I wish those who make knee-jerk anti-NY comments would reconsider. (I count at least 4 so far.) I strongly doubt I'd ever want to live where you folks do but don't feel the need to jump in & say so whenever the location is mentioned. I moved to NYC after college & have never wanted to live...

    Medicare Poll

I guess I'm in the 4th category: Medicare is my primary insurance; my supplemental plan is Empire Plan/UHC for retired NYS employees. Individual coverage is currently $175/mo., but I pay $0 since my unused sick leave was converted to an amount that will cover the premiums indefinitely. Nice...

    What have you read recently?

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. My book group chose it & I had zero interest in reading it ("a re-imagining of David Copperfield") but it won me over. Vivid characters & splendid storytelling, bringing Dickens' tale to life by placing it in Appalachia as the opioid crisis was arriving...

Poll: Who Do You Pick To Win Super Bowl 2024?

Oops! I was momentarily distracted & accidentally voted for the Chiefs. I'd love to see the 49ers win & would bet they do (by 7 or less). Would someone with no interest in the result do me a a favor & vote in my place?

    TurboTax: Now what?

Vanguard's 1099s are available on the website now, but the info isn't available for downloading until next week. Same with eTRADE. I've entered everything else manually, but prefer to download from those sites if I can.

    Tax prep software offers

I've been using Turbotax online & for the past few years have used a small discount from Penfed. This year I haven't seen it offered in an email or on Penfed's website, so I sent them an email asking about it. Got a speedy response that the discount is still being offered & they sent me a link...
